One of my fave National Trust place in South West! I have been here twice and they have renovated the Castle beautifully. The garden was lovely and well looked after. Best time to visit around spring and summer time to really appreciate nature.🔆

It's more a stately home than an actual castle but never-ending it's a very interesting place with endless walking trails. These trails go past the most magnificent views of local valleys and down to the river. There are trails that go to Fingles pub/bridge a picturesque area with tables rite to the edge of the water. We enjoyed watching someone fly fishing near the bridge. There's also a power generator on the river..one of the first in Britain and provides power to the castle. We've done 2 walks, the last one culminating at the cafe for tea and cake. This cafe was spotless and serviced by friendly happy people. There's outside seating available as well. The food was very good and welcome after a few hours of hiking. Restrooms were clean and whlchair accessable. There is a store nx door and noted many books of interest. The biggest attraction for us was the views . Funny to review a coffee shop by its local views but that's it's biggest attraction by far.

Gotta love a national trust day out !
We have been before but learned more again about the place with the lovely interesting volunteers that are dotted around the castle. The castle itself is beautiful and easy walk from the car park through the cafe /entrance and lovely views along the way (about 10min walk) we sat in the stunningly kept gardens after under a tree canopy for shade. Lovely few hours out ended with coffee and delicious cake !

The castle looks a bit unusual as it's the newest in the UK built in the 1930s. Amazing seeing all the ways things were done when it was in use. It was fitted with among other things an internal switch board for changing calls. Never seen one in real life! The castle itself isn't huge but really interesting. Recommend.

Queued and then both assistants got busy and just took ages with people showing no awareness of others around them. Chop chop.
Parking is £7.50 for more than 2 hours and you need just over 2 hours for the local hiking. Somewhat annoying when I later found that parking at Fingle Bridge would be free. Live and learn.
The Castle Drogo tea shop is very good.

Lovely place to break our journey to Cornwall, so much nicer than motorway services. dog friendly outside seating.
Have been round Castle on previous visits which is a fantastic ‘modern’ castle. Well worth visit if you have a few hours.

Most of the time call to Castle Drogo when we are on holiday in Devon, Views are lovely well maintained gardens, the Castle it self has had a lot of money spent on it.Just doesn't seem to have the atmosphere like the old castles. The shop and cafe are great, lovely and clean.Staff really friendly.
