Only been here a night, cant fault it if you are looking for cheap accommodation, no shower but has a bath, you can't help everyone. Folk complain there is no bath. Its basic but very clean. Staff are very helpful. I would definitely stay again, this was also recommended

I was pleasantly surprised by Calvert's Hotel.|I initially booked for a two-night stay in Newport and extended it to a five-night stay as I was having such a nice time.|The hotel was kept very clean and the public rooms (reception and bar) were very well decorated and presented.|The room had a brand-new wooden sash window installed and a brand-new radiator, and the curtains seemed new too. |The bed was comfortable, the furniture was smart, the view was excellent, the bath filled up well with plenty of hot water. |I reported a small spillage on the staircase and it was cleaned up immediately. |The location was fantastic - a stunning view of the Guildhall façade and right in the town centre, perfect for exploring the historical streets and squares. |It was within walking distance to Carisbrooke Castle, which was a really interesting day out.|The staff were friendly and professional, and nothing was too much trouble for them. I was made to feel very welcome at the Hotel and I couldn't have enjoyed my stay more.|It was great to be able to walk down Quay Street and have breakfast at Quay Arts on the terrace overlooking the water in the late September sunshine.|It was extremely quiet overnight and I had such good nights sleep - it was so relaxing.|I can really recommend a stay at this historical hotel.

Perfect for a cheap couple of nights. We are two 18/19 year olds and so price was more than worth it due to centralness, easy bus routes etc. So close to everything we needed for our stay. The main let down was the shower: freezing cold or boiling hot and no inbetween, and also extremely low pressure. If you're staying here for more than a couple of nights, its either go stinky or be lowkey burnt/frozen in the process of showering. Check in/out process was easy. Doors are stiff and need some WD-40, when doors are opened/closed in the area of your room, it slams your door aswell. Newport can be very loud on the weekends, so if you're here with kids or a business trip, would not recommend. On the other hand, its the only place with decent nightlife on the island, so perfect if you're fancying a night out- spoons, strip of 4 bars. Overall, apart from the shower being the main reason this review is a 3 star, it didn't stop us having an amazing time and we're deep sleepers, bed comfy. Thank you Calverts!

Good budget hotel I guess, wasn't the nicest. Can't really complain. Staff were nice when greeting me, and supporting me throughout the night. Only stayed for a night. Wouldn't go again, but would recommend if you needed something cheap to go too.

Stayed here for work purposes, looked at the website looked fine. Oh boy was I wrong! I understand that the building is really old and I like the quirkyness of old buildings but this place is so run down it's like it's not been updated since it's been built. Paint coming off the walls, carpets that are stained and worn thin they are so old. The bedroom space was adequate, the bed linen was yellow stained which I'm guessing were once white maybe 50 years ago. No shower, which I personally feel is very unhygienic as I don't want to be laying in a bath 100's of random people have bathed in, looking at the state of the place who knows if they cleaned the bath tub, plus it had patches for repairs.I could go on, it's a real shame as it's in a great location, just needs a good renovation and it would be lovely place to stay

Very central. Walkable to all the shops.
Very old. Cold.
Some Bathrooms lack shower heads, have carpets, tiny basins….

The worst hotel I have ever stayed at. It is a budget hotel yes but dirty and disgusting. Checked out and paid to stay somewhere else even though they won't refund. Don't stay here. We booked another hotel for not a lot more and was amazing, it was clean had a nice bar and Included breakfast and the food was great. Spend an extra few quid and save yourself.

This was my second stay at The Calvert's Hotel, and there customer service and helpfulness was fantastic. Thank you to Leah & Dan at reception, who even remembered me from a phone call in February, I was so impressed. The hotel and facilities are basic, but for the price and what you get is very good. the rooms were clean and tidy, the location and parking were very good and lots of places to see and explore also. I would definite return when i am next visiting.|Emma & Matt xxx
