Fantastic overnight here. Was a bit anxious after reading some reviews but was a last minute booking so just went for it. It's a lovely hotel. Our family room was very spacious, and huge bathroom. The big room and high ceilings reminded us of a beautiful traditional tenement and the styling is in keeping with that feel. Very comfy bed and lovely Bute fabrics pillows on the bed. Breakfast was fab, and plenty of hot freshly brewed coffee, no rotten coffee machine here, just fresh cafetiere. š„° |We didn't check in until 10.30pm (a long day at Bute Fest!) but it wasn't an issue we just called the number and got straight up to our room. |If you're looking for a purpose built, super modern, sleek hotel maybe this place just isn't for you. But you're missing out because it's a beautiful place to stay with incredible views. |It's also a very short walk from the ferry terminal and in a great location for sightseeing.

Returned on 25Jun2025,
This is the 4th time staying here. Booked from Agoda last minute, no clear instruction for check-in but was able to contact the staff with the number provided at the entrance. Within minutes i was given instructions to get into my room without hassle. Given top floor garden view room this time, room was well maintained, clean and newly furnished with a good shower. Breakfast lady this time was nice and attentive. Breakfast was substantial and quite good. Overall a pleasant stay.
Also, itās nice to see that the back garden has been well kept this time.
Tip: Bring your own room slippers.
Previously,
Stayed here 3 times over the year from lockdown to now.
The first 2 times were great experience, we had rooms facing the sea twice and a back garden facing room once.
The rooms were good and clean, heaters in room and good shower.
The hotelās location, warm service, lovely back garden and yummy breakfast actually keep bringing us back to this hotel however after 6 months when we returned this time, the standard has dropped and the hotel staff has also changed, service was poor and rude at breakfast, food was not as good and the back garden poorly maintained and abandoned.
Having said that Rachel was very lovely as we have arrived early, Rachel saw us at the front gate and jumped out from her car and let us check in early which was so nice of her.
The fat blonde hair short lady at breakfast was abrupt, rude and has zero customer service attitude. We were totally ignored at breakfast table and there were only 1 other table at that time, after 15 awkward mins my partner went up to check if she was aware that we were there for breakfast, she āorderedā loudly to return to his table and that she will be with us. And it didnāt happen, she went back to the kitchen hole.
During check in Rachel told us that due to low occupancy rate we were allowed to have late check out, on the day while we were getting ready to check out slowly at around 11.20am there was a loud banging on our door and questioned us why we were still in the room! Yes it was that fat blonde short rude lassie again! It was such a poor and sour experience this time. No, I will not return to this hotel if any guest is to be treated this way. Remember there are many nice, lovely and friendly hotels available just doors away!! I really hope the owner look into this before losing more customers who just want to have a good time in this lovely island.
āļøPhotos were taken a year ago! The garden is not the same and looking abandoned with missing tables and chairs and over grown grass and the beautiful giant plants are gone. The front door was broken, we can go out but canāt come back in and had to use back entrance to enter the building!

First of all we were given no guidance on checking in. When we arrived we had to call the number on the door, they advised our room and said the key was in the lock but they had the wrong information. this was quickly resolved. Once in the room it was clearly a little dated and old. wallpaper coming away from the walls. The room had spiders and webs in it and the bathroom had multiple spiders and cobwebs which we had to remove. The "double" bed was actually 2 singles pushed together and was not comfortable for a couple sharing as one is always falling down the gap in the middle and not what I expect for £180 double room. The shower leaked all over the floor making it dangerous getting in or out and meant we had to use our towels to dry the floor constantly. The shower also changed temperature from cold to scalding hot at a moments notice which was dangerous and not very comfortable. Finally the room on the ground floor was so close to the dining area and the walls are paper thin so from 830am you are woken by the other guests and the general noise from the dining area. Not what you want when on a relaxing stay. The "vegan" breakfast was appalling. Despite being told there were vegan sausages we were not given any. The meal consisted of a half a mushroom, quarter of tomato, some vegan haggis, a potatoes scone some burnt toast and cold baked beans. There was no effort to replace the meat products by offering more mushrooms or haggis and the beans being cold is just awful. Overall the hotel is more like a guesthouse and requires modernising. The room is overpriced for essentially a twin room with beds pushed together and was certainly not clean. The noise was awful and ruined the stay as we were unable to have a lie in instead woken unnecessarily.

I booked 2 double rooms with a shared bathroom August, we agreed a fee and cash on arrival. I text the owner to confirm the booking which he did. I thought no more about the booking until the date we arrived, which was 6th Sept. When we arrived we were informed there was not a booking and the hotel was full. I showed the text message with the confirmation but i was told the rooms had not been reserved. There was no attempt to help us or ring other hotels on the island to see if they had any availability. Unfortunately, it was sunny and 3 weddings on the Island this weekend so no rooms available anywhere on the Island. The whole incident was disgusting, they had obviously given our rooms away for a higher price and had no care for where we going going to stay!!!! i would not recommend this hotel as your room may not be available on arrival. A business should not be managed in such a way. Totally disgusted.

We stayed in this hotel 2 years ago and had a wonderful stay from start to finish, having one of the best breakfasts ever so couldnāt wait to repeat our experience, big mistake. |On arrival there was no one here to let us in despite phoning the two numbers listed. |Seems that the check in time should have been listed as 3, not 2. I appreciate that wasnāt the hotelās fault. |When we did finally get in we where answered at the door by Nish, a very nice chap though was his first day so didnāt really know what was happening, he directed us to Zoe, a lovely girl. Couldnāt apologise enough and upgraded us to the suite. The room itself was ok. Very tired though, clearly they had tried to modernise it with nice rugs and throws but ended up making the appearance worse than it was. They need to sort the curtains as they are too thin and the ones in the sitting area didnāt even close properly letting light in from early morning. |Went for our cooked breakfast in the morning to find out there wasnāt any. There was some cereal and muffins but no hot stuff. |The main problem is that the proper staff donāt start till Monday so why the heck was the hotel opened. |As I said both Nish and Zoe were lovely and tried their best but we wonāt be returning. |I have taken dispute with the booking agent as completely not as advertised. |We really looked forward to our return visit and the memory has now been tainted by this experience.

My cousin and I did an impromptu road trip up to the Highlands of Scotland. We hadn't planned to stay the night, but at the last minute decided to book into Cannon House instead of driving back to Glasgow. I booked at Cannon House thinking it was nearby to where we were, however not being from Scotland, I misunderstood the distance on the app, and it transpired that it was not close enough for us to get to in the time we had available. They instantly charged my credit card the full amount, and their policy was no refunds. Because of the circumstances, I called the hotel right away to request that they make an exception as it had been a genuine error on my part. The person on the other side of the line told me to do the cancellation through the Booking.com app that I had booked through, and that they would assist after I had done the cancellation. I did so right away, and sent an email directly to the hotel as well. Needless to say after 2 weeks and multiple follow ups they eventually refused to refund my card due to their "no cancellation policy". Whilst I completely understand that cancellations at the last minute cannot be refunded, I am disgusted to say the least that they would not accommodate what was an honest mistake and one which I contacted them literally within 15 minutes of making the incorrect booking and them charging my card. They would not have turned another booking away due to my cancellation, and thus would not been out of pocket. I feel that they have taken unnecessary advantage of what was a genuine human error. Needless to say I will not ever be booking there in earnest going forward.

Location fantastic.
Check in is a real faff, no one there to let you in, came back twice to get access finally.
Biggest bug bear was the breakfast, exceptionally poor, not like a typical Scottish breakfast at all and itās plain to see itās based on budget. Sausages are anaemic (boiled I think) rest was cold, 1 piece of toast. This is not Scottish hospitality , itās insulting really & if the owners do not address the issue then reviews like this & others will continue to be the norm.
No towels in room.
This establishment seems to be run on the premise of maximum profit for minimal investment and dines out on its location.
We would not recommend the place.
