Finally, I found a proper cafe in Ross on Wye. Nothing fancy about the premises, food or prices. Breakfast was £6 including a coffee. Dog friendly, traditional workers cafe eith a basic menu. Variations of breakfast, (including a vegetarian option) and sandwiches. If there is anything you don't like, they are happy to switch items. I am told it's very busy first thing, but no trouble at lunchtime.
If you're after something fancy there are plenty of posh coffee shops, if you are on a budget or prefer simpler food, this should be your first choice.
There is a five star hygiene rating displayed. I noticed several of the posh cafes were not displaying their ratings

Cantilupe cafe has moved .....

Now at the top end of cantilupe Road it has moved in to a new property opposite the bus stops.

It has a new fresh and updated interior with new table and chairs, new kitchen which is visible giving you the opportunity to see your food being cooked, make changes to your order or have a good old conversation as a cafe experience should be.

There's an toilet on the cafe floor to the right of the entrance, an outdoor seating area to the rear which is accessed by the side of the kitchen and a large open plan seating area.

Ita the Same great menu, same great food and same great cooks and owners along with the reasonable prices 😋

I definitely recommend a visit and with opening hours currently 8am to 4pm at time of reviewing it's eassier then ever not to mention the new location perhaps being considered more central.

Good luck not that you need it.

I first started coming to Cantilupe Cafe when I was waiting for my bus to school between 2004-2006. They always used wonderful soft and thick slices of bread for my egg roll. Fast forward to 2022 and this place is still my favourite place to eat when I can allow myself a fry up! I get it for take away and it is as good as it was nearly 20 years ago. Value is gread, food is great and people are great.

We had a really outstanding breakfast here, good thick bacon, great sausages and the eggs fried just right. You can see it being cooked and the price (£6 for the "small" £8 for the large) is fabulous value. Includes tea or coffee. (My wife said the coffee was great.) Nice friendly service. We will be back again.

First time here, as not from around here.
Made to feel very welcome, the lady that served me was lovely. Food was nice.
Will come back next time I visit 🙂
