I stayed the beach hut in January with my partner and I could not recommend this place enough. Everything was perfect, the team are so helpful and lovely and the hut has everything you need. I was amazed how beautiful it could make a gloomy day in January be, I would recommend the Beach Hut to everyone.

This was the 5th time we've stayed at a Carswell cottage, and 3rd time in The Mews.
So relaxing, so peaceful and beautiful countryside, we love it and look forward to our next stay.

Shepherd's Cottage this time was somewhat disappointing following our visit two years ago. Chairs had been replaced with some far less comfortable, and double bed needs a new mattress. Outside furniture had needed tlc previously - now obvious rot and needs work. TLC also needed in the cottage now. Pity the chickens have gone, and unfortunate the calming cows never appeared. The cottage guide needs updating. Great location; it just needs effort.

Having stayed in several of these lovely cottages over the last couple of years we can thoroughly recommend Corner Cottage and Shepherds Cottage where we had a longer stay this winter. The cottages are in a tranquil and unspoilt area. There is a lot to explore and so much to do. Beautiful beaches and the coastal path nearby, Dartmoor not too far, Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers almost on the doorstep both equally pretty with some good pubs. The cottages are well equipped with lovely views over the countryside and plenty of wildlife to see.... it really is far from the madding crowd but reasonably accessible. Thank you to Jo and her team for making us welcome.

Read the instructions to get the correct lane from the parking. Wellington boots or good walking boots are a must. The Beach Hut is a unique venue which is a fantastic experience. The Hut is cosy, comfy and has enough cooking facilities to manage for a couple of days. We enjoyed beach combing and cleaning, the hot tub is amazing. The team were excellent and looked after us.

The most perfect break, away from the madding crowd. An idyllic setting, comfortable bed with white sheets and towels, bathing under the stars and the nicest compost loo. The kitchen has everything you need and more. I couldn’t recommend this more.

This cottage is a complete gem! The furnishing has been beautifully done, I found myself photographing everything for inspiration at home. The pièce de resistance however was the bathroom, everything I have ever dreamed of, an amazing view from the bath over fields and woodlands (I even watched the sun set through the trees) a fireplace AND A DAY BED!! Utter heaven!! Downstairs there is a very effective log burner, and a brilliant electric cooker that looks and feels like an Aga, only so much easier. The beautiful coastal walks are right on the doorstep, we walked to Mothecombe and after descending into the famous beach we had a delicious lunch at The School House Restaurant. We will definitely come again and stay longer, there was so much more we could have done and the cottage immediately felt like it was our own home! Well done Carswell Cottages 👏

I really enjoyed the foraging experience, so informative, relaxed and in beautiful surroundings. The walk and down to the beach was spectacular and to then come back and cook what we had foraged was a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. I have told so many people how good it was!
