Went for food only. Situated in a very nice and scenic area. However food is hit and miss, the steak and ale pie was too salty and definitely not worth £25 but the salmon and wild rice was really good and tasty, same with the pork belly. Service was disappointing, we were rushed throughout the evening even though there was no follow-on booking for the table. Waitress wanted us to place our own water glasses on the table and pushed us to order as soon as possible. Would not recommend, I see why they didnt include the service charge in the bill.

Chanced across this whilst looking for a special pub in the area for my wife’s birthday and it didn’t disappoint.

The food was amazing, all the way down to the portion sizes, in a market where the portion sizes are increasing and you feel bad for not finishing, these guys nailed it.

The staff were friendly, especially a French waiter who had just started, he had a real respectful humour and great manner about him, honestly someone like this can make a great meal perfect.

We had crab and salmon starters and halloumi fries with chilli jam. Then for our mains we had beef roasts and the beef was wow, just wow, perfectly cooked, nice and tender. The veg was amazing, buttery and perfectly cooked. The roast potatoes were a 4/5 but still great. And the gravy was lovely.

Finally for pudding I had the pear tarte with biscoff ice cream.

The whole thing was delicious.

Will definitely return.

Another delicious Sunday Lunch. Came here back in January and vowed to come again. We both had the pork; moist, tasty and plentiful. Great veg too (loved the roast chantenay carrots) then the pear tart tatin and the white chocolate cremeux. All excellent. Staff all friendly and attentive so creating a very nice ambience (and a chance to practice my French LOL) We'll come back for evening meal soon I hope.

This place is lovely and I would return. The rooms are simple but lovely and very clean, the restaurant downstairs is lovely and the food is great. I would definitely recommend the steak and ale pie. The staff are great, particularly the man who I THINK is the manager. He was very upbeat and happy to help.||The reasons I didn’t give it a 5 star is due to the water pressure in the shower not being great and the coffee being a bit vile.||But other than that, my stay was lovely. Thank you!

Excellent!! I had the steak and ale pie. Our US friend had the Morrocan vegetable, followed by Cartmel sticky toffee pudding and said this was brilliant too. Great Service from two excellent people. In our top three this year!

We just stop there for lunch, driving from Loch Lomond to Chester. It was really a good stop because the village is beautiful, cozy, and with Michelin restaurants in the area. But for us was perfect, a delicious pull pork bocadillo! One of the best in my all life I would say. My wife ordered a soup and it was also delicious. The pub is very comfortable, simple but ancient flavored and well as elegant. Just to sum up, highly recommended.

Cartmel is a beautiful village, and we stayed at a campsite on the outskirts. We had a fab day walking and exploring the area, then headed to the Cavendish Arms for our reservation. The setting was great and the Inn was busy, which was great to see.||Unfortunately, the experience was let down by service. While the waitresses were very friendly and helpful, the Maître d’ was cold and unwelcoming, which really affected the overall vibe.||Would I return on my next visit? Sadly, no.

This is the throw time I have been for lunch. I love it. Very very pretty pub, lovely location. The house champagne is a total steal. A decant midweek treat! And this time i has the steak and ale pie...... I've eaten a lot of these in my time ( and I make them). This was honestly the best ever. It's next door to L' Enclume by I feel entirely content to go the Cavendish. Thank you for another lovely lunch.
