We were due to stay in this place at the end of Oct. We were going to celebrate a 90th birthday. Unfortunately the lady passed before the booked date.||I tried calling the hotel, for days, no answer.||I emailed, no reply.||Seems to me that once they have their money that's it, they don't want to know.||I have read since that other people have had the same experience.||Make sure your booking won't be compromised or you will have the same problem.||Personally I think they have written their own good reviews!!!

Our stay didn't start perfectly as the keys were missing from the KeyGuard outside... However using the contact number, Sophie was very helpful in organising someone to come and let us in. The room was comfortable but a little stuffy and airless in the hot weather as the windows only open a crack. However, the air-con helped lessen this problem. Sadly, shop alarms, local rowdies and incredibly noisy gulls kept us awake on both nights. The bed was comfortable but the synthetic pillows were rather lumpy. We could have done with more milk and tea sachets and some coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. The toiletries in the bathroom were good but we struggled to drain the bath after showering. Breakfast was simple but okay, and it would have been much improved with better than dull, white sliced bread. A few parking spaces are available just round the corner, but there were no spaces left for us, so we parked on the street. Overall not a bad stay in a quirky but rather run-down venue.

Lovely old building housing both a small hotel (6 rooms) and a superb restaurant, Thai by Ja, expertly run by Ja and Martin. At ยฃ101.75 for the room and breakfast, plus ยฃ35.50 for a super meal with two beers, it was a bargain. Almost worth making a special trip to the Isle of Wight for.

Hotel check-in is self-service, based on pre-registration and an SMS to tell you your room number and the codes needed to enter the hotel and access your room key. Unfortunately, I didn't get an SMS and arrived to find a locked door quoting an emergency phone number that was diverted to voicemail. However, there was also a sign saying the restaurant, whose entrance is just around the corner of the building, was open. There I found Ja's other very friendly half, Martin, who let me in and gave me the key to my first floor room, room 2. Note that there is no lift and half the rooms are on the second floor.

My room was spacious, with a rustic look (see video clip) but it had both underfloor heating and a Daikin heating and airco system plus a modern bathroom. Ja (or Martin) had forgotten to put out any towels but this was quickly remedied by Martin.

The room had a spacious cupboard with 6 clothes hangers and a safe, plus a chest of drawers, two bedside tables, an old workman's table as a desk and a fan, as well as the very comfortable bed, two antique industrial stools, an armchair, a Nespresso-type coffee machine, a ketlle and a hairdryer (see the comment below about the shower). For my taste, there were two minor negatives: I don't much like hotel rooms with carpeted floors or so-called rain showers, above the bath moreover, which mean that it's difficult to shower without getting your hair wet. There was ample lighting and some 8 power points, though none in the bathroom. The bathroom was also not advisable for anyone with reduced mobility - the bath is quite high/deep and there's no hand grip - and the mirror, whilst being OK for shaving, was unlikely to be considered adequate by most of the ladies I'm acquainted with.

The window blinds were effective, though a bit fiddly to operate, and there was no street noise at night. The room was well heated but I found the bathroom a bit chilly early in the morning.

For breakfast you have to cross the (pedestrian only) street to a small pub. I don't go for cooked breakfasts and thus found the offering a bit sparse but the menu (see photo) includes a range of cooked items which, I was assured, are included without charge for Charter House guests

What an amazing stay
A real hidden gem our room was spacious and modern, the room came with complimentary toiletries fluffy towels and tea and coffee facilities.
A wide range of options to choose from on the breakfast menu setting us up for the day ahead.
Great value and great location would highly recommend.

The family suite is a great size, the bath was huge and the tv was too. There was a coffee machine in the room with some coffee pods, and glass bottles of spring water. Lovely decor, morning staff was friendly. My only complaint was the beds are very squeaky and could do with being replaced/better mattresses as werenโ€™t overly comfortable. The doors slammed a lot at all hours - could do with soft closing ones. Also the location is quite loud with people and those pesky seagulls at all hours haha. Iโ€™d never stay over the weekend again but the Monday night was quieter - people and doors wise. Lots of stairs up to the family room and no lift so I did struggle with luggage. Also the parking cost extra! Beautiful room though and great price and location.

The room I stayed in for a week was cozy and decorated in a colorful, quirky style that I really liked. It was clean, the bed was really comfortable, and the room and bathroom were both spacious. There was plenty of cupboard space for my things and an A/C unit that came in really handy, since I'm from a much colder place and not really used to the island weather.||Breakfast was excellent, especially the pancakes, and the chef was very friendly. I keep my hotel rooms clean, so I only wanted housekeeping on one day to stock up on toilet paper and empty the trash etc., and service was great. Everyone on staff that I spoke to was very nice.||The location was great for me as I was on a work trip, it was close to where I needed to go as well as close to the bus station to get to everything else I wanted to see on the island. Great dinner options were also practically everywhere nearby, a shop for all the basics was a two minute walk away, and the church right there on the square is definitely worth a visit. Some reviewers mentioned noise on the square at night, but I didn't find this to be a problem even though there were people spending time outside especially on Friday night, the noise didn't carry all that much.||The only thing I would have wanted in the room is a small fridge of some kind to have some cold drinks on hand, but it's not like my trip was ruined due to a lack of that as the shop was so close.||If you want to stay in a 5 star hotel with someone at your beck and call at all times this is not the place for you, but if you want a clean, hassle-free, nicely located place to sleep in on your island visit, I really do recommend this place. I have nothing bad to say about my stay and will not hesitate to book a room again if I visit the island.

We had a booking for 10-09-2024.Travelling down to Portsmouth ferry we had a car breakdown .It was the alternator belt -something beyond service or any control .We kindly requested 50 % refund for something beyond our cotrol. The response was the frozen, selfish answer : we run a 7 days non refund policy . The Wight Link ferry to Isle of Wight refund us the money even if we did not have a flexible ticket . Charter House don't want to understand reason and an unfortunate event happened to a family coming to enjoy a few days of holiday .They listen only to their own reason : the pocket .They are not so forth coming as is described on the reviews on line
