Such a beautiful garden setting, minutes from the city centre. Lesley makes you so welcome and the house is full of exquisite art work - her own. Some rooms are newly decorated in exquisite taste The beds were comfy and the breakfast! Fruit, specialist breads, homemade preserves and the best bacon and sausage. This was a very pleasant surprise. The website does not do justice to this fantastic B&B within walking distance of Durham city centre (about 30 mins). Lesley is a lovely hostess and gave us a warm welcome as soon as we arrived, which considering it was a snow-bound night, was a relief! Her home is situated in a sizable garden on the edge of Stonebridge. The interior is decorated with many of her vibrant paintings. Our room had a comfy bed in it and an immaculate bathroom. The breakfasts were hearty with some nice touches - the fruit salads and deli bread. Lesley gave us the run of the place and left us to our own devices. We came and went with no worry of curfew. We'd certainly stay again if we're in the area. Recommended.

Lesley was very friendly and helpful over a three night stay, and we'd definitely stay again. Nice location, which was convenient for the centre of Durham but was quiet -by being on the edge of the city. If you wanted to walk to the cathedral, for example, that would be a bit over 30mins (with some ups, but interesting). It felt like we could have any variation of breakfast that we wanted- needs to be sampled!

We had a really lovely stay here for a full week. Lesley took outstanding care of us and really made us feel at home, with wonderful home-cooked breakfasts and lots of excellent advice about the city and travel nearby. It’s also close to an inn and walking distance from town. The house is also decorated with beautiful paintings. We’d strongly recommend it.

Friends meeting, eating, giggling and sleeping. We choose here to be within walking distance to Durham City. Kingfisher on the river and bats in the garden. Just the way we like it.|We were welcomed by Lesley into a family home with tea and biscuits. Our rooms were under the eaves of the 1811 roof. Comfortable nights sleep.|Lesley's artwork was surrounding us in the house. |Breakfast was tasty and a fantastic start to our days exploring.|Lesley covered all of our needs and provided full English. ||

This place was chosen because it had “alleged” amazing reviews, 5 out of 5...||We arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday. We’d booked months in advance (July), and were staying until the Sunday.|When we arrived we found it difficult to park down the shared muddy drive. It was a winters evening, so it was good that I had my own handheld and head torches as there was no other illumination, and parking was tight, even though there were no other guests.|We were greeted by the slightly elderly owner (Lesley), I think she said she’d had some kind of operation on her toes (she had a plastercast on her lower leg), she told us that meant she couldn’t carry any breakfasts, but if we wanted one on each morning, she said we’d have to carry them ourselves from the kitchen to the dining room.|We asked to see the room, upon investigation, the room had clothes and 2 or 3 suits in the wardrobe, damp patches on the ceiling over the wardrobe, the bathroom was pretty mingling, and the decor was circa 1981, no shower, just a bath. The door to the room was unable to be locked, it simply had a handle that you would find in your own home to your own bedroom door, and Lesley was surprised to hear that we would want to lock the room for security when we visited the City. There were 2 other guest rooms, they would have easily been able to access our room when we were in town, and potentially have access to any valuables, especially as the owner couldn’t climb the stairs in order to secure or check the rooms. She did say she had a lock for a door, some kind of mortice lock, and asked if I could fit it in order to provide security for the room, which clearly would have meant chiselling, and as I hadn’t anticipated any DIY on the trip, and had left my toolbox at home, I declined.|It was a disaster, and hugely disappointing.|We had to pay twice as much each night in order to stay at the Radisson Blu, as after 30-45mins of desperate Google searches and phone calls, was the only place available on the Centenary of Remembrance at Durham|Cathedrals celebrations over the weekend, not to mention the normal weekend frivolity that occurs in Durham.
