What a lovely pub. Staff are superb and the food absolutely delicious. Lovely setting inside too. Clean and nicely decorated. If only I lived closer, I’d be a regular. 😊

Came here for Saturday lunch , 4 adults and a baby. Very cosy traditional feel, roaring log fire, very friendly service. Was struck by the menu , not just the usual pub favourites but some unusual offerings like Mochi ice cream. A lot home made like the delicious mushroom soup. All beautifully presented and delicious.

My partner and I had the pleasure of dining at The Coach and Horses in Compton recently, and it truly proved to be an exceptional experience from beginning to end. Tucked away in the heart of the South Downs National Park, this independently run country inn has undergone a delightful refurbishment, radiating warmth and cosiness.

From the moment we stepped inside, we received a warm and welcoming greeting from the attentive staff, setting a wonderful tone for our evening.

What's more, we were thrilled to find out that this charming establishment is dog-friendly, making it a perfect spot for us and our furry companion on future visits.

The menu at The Coach and Horses boasts a delightful array of fresh homemade dishes, and each one we sampled was not only delectable but also impeccably presented. Their culinary creations truly left us impressed.

The interior of the inn is adorned with charming period-inspired decor, creating a unique and comfortable atmosphere that transports you to another era.

What's even more remarkable is the restaurant's commitment to cleanliness and hygiene. The toilets were spotlessly clean, and we appreciated the use of linen one-use hand towels, which added an extra layer of comfort to our dining experience.

In terms of value for money, The Coach and Horses excels. Given the quality of the food and the cosy ambience, dining here is a true delight that won't strain your budget.

A very warm welcome when we visited this historic pub. It has been refurbished and restyled to a very high standard, in keeping with the age of the property. The food was excellent, freshly cooked and served straight from the kitchen. Visitors and locals plus friendly dogs at ease near the log fires, no rush to leave and a totally relaxed ambience. Just the sort of pub we like added to which the owner and waitress spent time explaining their hopes for a gentlemen’s and ladies’ club to attract more clientele which they certainly deserve. We wish them well and will be back!

A wonderful country pub in an idyllic location with amazing food. The menu is second to none, even amongst some heavy competition locally. I personally recommend the pork belly or duck salad to start.. absolutely beautiful. Mains are equally as good and what puds I have sampled have been exquisite. A great welcome, fantastic interior decor and food is the best locally. Really warrants a thoroughly great recommendation.

We visited THE COACH AND HORSES BY ACCIDENT , September 2023.|My husband and I was so impressed with this enchanting inn we we decided to have a meal too.|Was NOT disappointed . But was excellent.|Our Anniversary was the following month and decided to celebrate it at the same place so we booked plus the same table|Again, the greeting as we entered was just as warm.|My husband ordered the pumpkin soup,and what a soup it was.|Presented in a large pumpkin style container with lid and homemade bread.|He was blown away saying how delicious.|I ordered the prawn cocktail with a twist.|This was a delicious started and what a twist ,and creative way of putting |Ingredients together.| For my main course I decided to have a steak .|How beautifully cooked it was. Mouth watering and Perfect.|Every mouthful of food is just utterly heaven ,and everything has that something little twist.|Everything is served with care and a warm charm.|The ambiance is cozy comfortable, and added luxury.|Originally walked in for a drink, but could not resist having a meal as well.|WE CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS BEAUTIFUL HIDDEN GEM ENOUGH.|Thankyou , we will be back again and again.||||

We loved our stay at The Coach and Horses.
Paul and Dave are fantastic hosts, and nothing is too much trouble. The room was clean and well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The bed was very comfy and the homemade treats were much appreciated.
Our dinner was excellent! It came out hot and the portions were a good size. The homemade pie was full of flavours and there was plenty of rum in the rum and raisin parfait- compliments to the chef!

Alastair and Keira are wonderful of hosts. The setting and fit out of the newly refurbished pub/restaurant is superb. The food is sublime and the wine and beer choices are plentiful. We held my fathers memorial drinks and were offered the whole venue for the celebration. The staff are incredibly helpful and polite, we could not have asked for better service. Thank you again.
