Stayed here as part of a conference and didn’t expect much as the price was fairly cheap but this was very grotty. Didn’t feel like they had cleaned after the students had moved out. ||First arrived to find the toilet seat on the floor so had to ask for it to be fixed. No towels or toiletries so again had to request. Window wouldn’t open properly. Hairs on shower walls and mouldy shower head, which had terrible water pressure too. Bathroom floor was disgusting. And bad nights sleep as the pillows were rubbish. The room had the potential to be a nice-ish student B&B but the cleanliness just really let it down.

I stayed in Collingwood for 2 nights during September 2016 for a conference at the University as other hotels seemed to be very expensive. My room was designed for a disabled student, so was spacious, very clean, lovely bathroom and comfortable bed so it was just somewhere to lay my head. It was a bit of a hike from the conference venue but quite an enjoyable walk. It was a 30 minute walk to the nearest decent restaurant as the local pub only offered student type burgers and the bus service was mostly non-existant. Breakfast was mediocre. Staff were very pleasant but i thought they missed opportunities in that the bar was shut and no other meals available except breakfast. With the numbers staying, it would have been cost-effective to have evening meals available. Having a TV in the room would have been excellent because there was a lovely comfy chair to sit in. Wi-fi was patchy at times and I found out too late there was a TV room but if someone was using it, you had to watch what was on, not what you wanted to watch.

Really nice room on a lovely site. It is a hall of residence for students, obviously, but en-suite bathrooms and spacious rooms. Ours had two single beds, very comfortable, bedding and towels provided, wardrobe, drawer and desk space, lamps to use as bedside lights or to study by, tea/coffee making facilities and supplies and a little welcome gift of toiletries: miniature soap, sachets of shampoo, hand/body lotion and I think shower gel. The lotion was lovely. Also had a fridge in our room. Woke up to birdsong and wild rabbits hopping about directly under our window.
Cons: it was a bit of trek from the front entrance to our room given my mobility difficulties (information on which we'd supplied at the time of booking) and the doors were heavy and tight gaps from the POV of a manual wheelchair user, plus the carpet acted as a brake. Could not fit wheels *and* hands through the doorway of our room, which was a bit awkward, and the lift was tiny.
The campus in general isn't great for wheelchair pushers.
Collingwood College is very central and was incredibly welcoming. I would happily stay there again.

We stayed here as part of a national fishing competition which was pre-paid. I have no idea what it costs to stay here, so I can't comment on value for money. We usually stay in a hotel and so apart from the rooms it was not a lot different.||||The rooms- Obviously single student accommodation. Single bed with not a great mattress and basic facilities. It was clean and worked well for me as I spent little time in it other than changing and sleeping. Shower is tiny, but plenty of hot water. No TV or climate control and depending where you are a bit of a hike to the conference centre. Kettle and refreshments provided, small bag of soaps etc, rooms serviced daily.||||The Food- Excellent. Both the arrival meal and presentation dinner was excellent. Breakfasts well catered, although we had no cooked breakfast on day one and that was sorely missed by everyone. You cannot fish all day on a French Croissant and jam. Not sure who's idea that was organiser or college Management. The service was better than any restaurant with plenty of attentive staff.||||Bar scene- Not too bad. Beer prices were low £2.40-£2.70 pint. But on our visit there was no real ale. Most of the guests were old blokes that prefer a real beer and not fizzy imported lager. The bottled ale sales reflected the need for some real beer on draft. Could have used a few more hands behind the bar too.||||On the whole a decent place to have our base, lots of parking and good facilities. Friendly people. ||Thanks

Stayed here a couple of times this summer, and have used other Durham colleges in the past. ||The accommodation is fairly basic, but clean and well maintained. Some rooms are a fair walk from reception and the dining hall. En suite rooms available. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room, there is a radio but no TV. (Students bring their own!) Not a problem for my short stay, and there is a bar/lounge with communal TV. A full breakfast is included in the room rate, and is served buffet style in a large hall. Cold meats and cheese are offered as alternatives to the traditional English. This is basically a canteen, so don't expect refinement or atmosphere, but the food itself is perfectly adequate. Service finishes at 9am though. ||There is ample parking space on site, and no extra charge is made for this. From the station, you'll probably need a taxi.||The location is safe, pleasant and also a quieter alternative to the city centre.. Other than the Botanic Gardens, there is not much to see in the immediate vicinity, but the lovely city of Durham is 10-15 minutes walk away and has a wide choice of pubs and restaurants as well as its famous historical sites. (The walk back is uphill, the less able might want to drive to a closer point or take a taxi). Reception staff were polite and helpful, and I was able to access my room immediately despite arriving well over an hour in advance of advertised check in. ||Obviously you can't expect the facilities here to match those of a decent standard hotel, but depending on your needs, it still has numerous plus points as described above. For the price charged, a stay here is good value for money.

Stayed here as part of a weekend conference - en suite room with a great shower and a very comfortable bed. I don't know why we were accommodated on the top floor at the furthest end of the building though especially when the accommodation wasn't particularly full. Food was excellent a great choice for different diets. It is basic but perfectly serviceable.

I stayed here for a conference. The location is good and it was nice to be in the same location as the other conference delegates. |The documentation I was sent from collingwood gave me the wrong impression and it looks much nicer in the materials. This is student accommodation and really needs some updating. Rooms are very basic and the bathroom is not great. As long as you realise this you will be fine and as I said, it is conveniently located and good to be in the same place as other conference delegates. Staff were very nice and helpful.

Collingwood College could best be described as awful. The accomodation that I was in was described by the authorities of the University in need of renovation. What a place to put a Conference Delegate. The window handles were in poor order apart from anything else. A bar was mentioned in Conference notes , there was no bar nor indeed any indication where one could watch television. On the first night that I was there , post grad students were celebrating and I was kept awake from 1.00 - 3.30 a.m. Nobody did anything about the noise. Finally the breakfast was mediocre in quality. To charge £55 for the accomodation per night was a complete and unmitigated ripoff. I have been to a number of Universities and Colleges but this was the most expensive and by far the worse.Could not get the free internet to work either.
