I sat in our room - quite small with bland furnishings - and wondered exactly what made this hotel 4 star. At £900 for four nights I really expected more but then the vegetarian cooked breakfasts, comfy bed, the cozy sitting room and the great location made me appreciate why it might make the grade. The staff were all really lovely and the parking was a bonus. On the down side the room was poky and bland and we could hear people walking about in the room above us. I suggest that the dining room at busy times needs a manager as although the waiting staff were lovely they needed more guidance so we didn’t have to keep asking for things.

Second visit to this lovely hotel. This time I chose a standard room on ground floor which was very clean and well appointed. Staff are always friendly and helpful and the hotel is very convenient for my son’s college and an easy 15 minute walk to centre too. Bar is just lovely in the evening too. Thank you so much I will be back!

Had a great time weekend stay here for a city break weekend. Very comfortable beds, well appointed rooms and very clean. |Great communal spaces in the drawing room and bar areas.|Very helpful, friendly staff who were willing to assist and even went so far as to provide us with an ice bucket and flutes for an evening in our rooms.|Plentiful and varied choices for breakfast which was also very good. |Parking in site was very handy and only a 20 minute walk into town. Perfectly located. |Our only issue was the over hit dining room- otherwise perfect! |Would definitely stay here if we return to Oxford.

Pleasant and comfortable hotel with free on-site guest parking. About 15 minutes’ walk into centre of Oxford and on bus routes.

The hotel is very traditionally furnished and run, and, to my knowledge, I don’t think there is a lift to rooms on upper floors. However there are courtyard rooms on the ground floor.

The hotel has a pleasant bar and lounge for guests’ use. The restaurant/breakfast room is pleasantly furnished and comfortable. We didn’t eat there in the evenings but had breakfast there each morning. There is a fairly good buffet selection, and a good choice of cooked foods to order.

The hotel has a peaceful atmosphere and we have always been satisfied with our rooms and quality of service when we stay there.

From the moment we arrived at the reception to be greeted with a warm and informative welcome, our stay was brilliant.||Our ground floor room was immaculately clean and the bed was very comfortable.||Breakfast was table service with buffet selection for cereals. Cooked breakfast was a delight with gluten free toast provided and extra coffee and butter was served which accompanied the excellent selection of preserves.||Our dinner was also beautifully cooked and waiter service was speedy and attentive without being intrusive. The bar staff created a delicious non alcoholic cocktail and other alcohol free drinks were available.||For a reasonably priced hotel we felt that the standard of our room, food and service was better than some 5 star establishments.||Well done to the whole team , we shall certainly return.

Read the negative reviews carefully—this establishment knows it has serious problems but ignores the same. For over 300£/night, being woken repeatedly by VERY loud water pipes “howling” (staff pretending the first day they knew nothing about and would quickly fix, then later admitting this was a well known long-term problem didn’t sit well for the price). Additionally, having to request ANY AND ALL housekeeping service and coffee/water replacement daily, having to use the cord kettle on the floor, moderately warm water with virtually no pressure in the shower and no hairdryer made for a highly disappointing experience. The only kind and accommodating staff were the housekeepers who seemed to know the score and were doing their best to alleviate our discomfort. You can do much better elsewhere. We will certainly not return again when we come annually. The management should be ashamed. This is a gorgeous property, in a great location, that they are clearly deciding not to properly maintain in the interest of pocketing heftier profits.

We spent one night at the Cotswold Lodge Hotel in the Merton Suite for our wedding anniversary.||The entire experience was wonderful. From the very welcoming reception staff to the very charming Josh who served us drinks in the lounge bar. We will definitely be back !

The hotel has kept its old historic decorative theme throughout. I stayed there during the worst possible rainstorm. So, with that in mind there were towels down and water leak containers out. My room on 2nd floor really heard the rain fall. Bit of a loud humming noise coming from the toilet til 1am but probably just a boiler heating up. Toilet/shower worked fine and bedroom was satisfactory. Was £200 for a night for a 4* hotel worth it.
