I made the booking via a well known platform at the end of a tiring day.
On the platform I booked via I'd noticed that there were options for various rooms but they were listed as sharing a bathroom.
I'm not a fan of "middle of the night" meetings with other guests so I opted for the alternative that didn't make any mention of sharing a bathroom.

So I was slightly confused when I arrived at check-in and was given the tour showing where the bathroom was and other toilets.

The breakfast room was already set up in the kitchen. Cheeses and meats and various spreads, cereals, milk, wrapped pain-au-chocolat....it looked like a good selection that most would be happy with. Could help yourself to milk for the room.

The lounge had a very interesting fireplace and it seemed to be framed with part of the gates that once ringed Coventry.

And you couldn't help but notice that things were being restored and part of the renovations that I'd read about before writing this. A renovation process that previous reviewers had mentioned (a year ago according to Google's dating of previous reviews on here).

The host explained where local food options were, so I dropped my bags and went for dinner. If you do go to The Nugget, the local pub, make sure that if you drive there to input your car reg into the parking tablet or you will get a fine!

Later back at the Lodge, I noticed that there was a toilet next to the room allocated to me. The toilet seat was broken and lying next to the toilet!

And that's when I checked back to my booking. Yep I hadn't asked for a double room with a shared bathroom. I thought I'd booked a room that had a small en-suite (because all the other options mentioned a shared bathroom...the room I selected didn't mention any shared bathroom.)

I'd been upgraded. And being shown all the toilets/bathroom at check-in now made sense.

The room had a sink in the corner, so that was a bonus. Getting water for the kettle, or a freshen up in the room was possible.

The bed was comfortable and the room warm.

Reading other reviews.... I'm not sure if any of the rooms have an en-suite. If that's what you need to make an overnight stay comfortable, I would recommend asking before making a booking.

A suggestion to the host...make sure it is easier to understand if a room has a en-suite or not, (on all the online platforms via which a room can be sold) because if you assume you have a en-suite, then not having one isn't an upgrade when it comes to managing client expectations.

This is a very historic place which could be so much more than its current standing, The promise of a country estate hotel, but with the amenities of a backpacker's hostel accommodation. Granted its an old 1700s property but we've stayed in many and those that have been converted. Unfortunately this property being a former 1980s care home still has the same floor plan. Single dwelling units with shared toilet facilities. The decor yes it was tastefully done for the purpose it was built but lacking all you'd expect from a hotel of this price point. Even the worst Blackpool hotel The Driftwood Hotel has ensuite rooms for a much lower price. The shared bathrooms had pubic hair in the bath tub and various stains in and around the high flush toilet. Tinfoil on the old doorway windows was all a bit odd and jarring. Clearly the rooms were used by smokers with tobacco smell permitting from the carpet, old cigarette butts thrown out the window into the gutters. It still felt like you were staying in an old people's home half expected Aunt Maud to come screaming past shouting at the pigeons. The continental breakfast wasn't great at all. It was stale out of date food to warm milk and no staff around. We left and went to find breakfast elsewhere. Thoroughly disappointed expected a nice country retreat but instead got a back packers hostel from Bulgaria. And when you do complain she becomes ill-tempered with misinformation you can not argue with the truth we had another booking for a diffrent room wich was evidenced and emailed and complaints raised to hotels.com. A bad tempered karen of the highest order, bathrooms shared rooms ok but clearly this place needs some serious overhauling avoid at all costs. If the owner review appears to be contradictory its because there trying to save face whilst our complaint procedures going through with the booking site.

This is not really a hotel. I booked a single room without an en-suite, and the bathroom is down the corridor. It used to be a retirement home, and now it feels like a sort of retreat venue. There is no bar or restaurant as such, and breakfast is continental style but very well stocked with huge variety and quality options (gut bacteria yoghurt drinks, fruit, various breads and cereals etc - I was surprised by the range). There are kitchen facilities, and you put your cutlery and crockery in the dishwasher yourself. I found the host to be friendly and I really enjoyed my stay. The location and views are lovely, and the house is quirky, peaceful and I liked it a lot.||You have to get into the right mindset. It is not a hotel, it is well priced, everything is there for you with a little effort. When I think about what I received for ÂŖ50 or so it's remarkable. Great value and I will return.

We needed a place for our daughter to stay the night after graduation from Warwick, and this was perfect. Very reasonably priced and a beautiful setting on the edge of the city. A friendly welcome and an absolutely safe environment for a young female solo traveller. Recommended.

Place I visited was The Lodge At Pickford House, Coventry.

Needed a last min stay with my husband when visiting family in Birmingham, booked this as it was on route to London. It was better than my expectations!

First of all, immediately was greeted by the hostess via email. Giving us all relevant information about location, best GPS routes etc. She also took preferred details about bed, milk and bread! Also, roughly what time we'd arrive; so she could greet us.

When we arrived, she welcomed us so warmly it was like a virtual hug! Yes, she's a born hostess, I don't know if this is her career or just a passion of hers because she's so lovely.

The getaway to the lodge, is very cute. It's like a small hidden getaway to a secret garden, unfortunately it was raining so we ran inside; otherwise the blossoming flowers would have been great for entry pictures.

Host, showed us all the facilities and neighbouring recommendations for restaurants and bars. But, we were so comfortable in the bed we knocked out.

For reference about height of the lodge and bed, both my husband and I are over 6ft. We were very comfortable in the bed and walking around the lodge. It's perfect for two, as it's big in length it gives the illusion that it's more spacious. So, automatically you feel like there's more room. Anyway, I loved the touches of artwork, it was clear that the hostess has a keen eye for art with the small touches around the lodge.

For me, what made this place outstanding was the hostess, she was absolutely incredible. So friendly and caring, she left a welcoming card for us and as I am a big fan of letters and notes; this was a top tier for me! Was just so thoughtful and beautiful unexpected gesture. Even my husband was like, she did well with this. Also got some beautiful chocolates, but the card was what wowed me!

Location; you'll need a car as everything is far and wouldn't be able to access local transportation easily.

Would I stay again? Without doubt, if I was single I'd probably move in permanently! Even recommend it to singletons for long-term. Especially for all those professionals that work in Solihull/ Coventry or Birmingham area. That's how much I enjoyed my stay.

Some people are born hostess, this host is one of those people! Wouldn't disappoint.

Honestly, if you ever wondered what it be like if you stayed at Monica Gellar's (Friends) guest house. This is probably the closest experience you'll get. And, it was 10/10.

Whatva beautiful property in a stunning location. This is a grade 2 listed building which the owners are refurbishing. The room I stayed in was tastefully done and comfortable. The outside space was also well thought out with tables/chairs out to sit and relax on taking in the sunshine and stunning views. Somewhere I will definitely return to. I was so taken I did a live stream to home and forgot to take photos!
