We had been residents in the village and this hotel has passed through various hands since it was a more traditional Country House Hotel. Wetheral is a beautiful village set above the banks of the river Eden, which has a very long history, particularly the Church. |The hotel is welcoming and our room was comfortable and surprisingly roomy, within the annex that was formerly staff accommodation. The food was well prepared and presented. The staff were very attentive and efficient, especially the bar staff who were having a busy night due to a larger group staying (Great Train Journeys; there is a railway station close to the hotel). The breakfast was good, but perhaps could be laid out more attractively. The bar/restaurant ambience could feel a little warmer. There is a good leisure facility attached to the hotel.

The welcome is genuine at The Crown Hotel and decent sized room, comfortable bed and great shower . We came with our dog, often hotels advertise as pet friendly, the Crown certainly was! He had his own bed, bowls, poop bags and in Waltons bar there was even a dog menu. Bertie is fussy eater but thoroughly enjoyed the steak and kidney dinner. We had delicious roast lamb and trout. |Breakfast was well organised and again dog owners sat in the bar area so if you’re not keen on dogs don’t worry they have a separate conservatory restaurant for non dog customers.|Lots of walks nearby and a cute Post Office and coffee shop. |Would definitely return if in the area, thanks to all the cheerful , professional staff who helped make our stay a great one.

Excellent hotel in beautiful surroundings. Very comfortable room. Tori on reception was lovely and so helpful. Couldn’t do enough for us. Beautiful dining room and meals generally very good. Nice to have option of using the pool facilities too.

This was one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at over the years. The reason? The staff, the service, and the food. As a coeliac, I rarely have much choice in my meal options, but care and attention had been given to give people with allergies and intolerances as many choices as possible - and it was delicious! The manager, Marlon, was helpful and very friendly, and has trained his team very well - they were a delight. Leigha at the front desk was wonderfully efficient in dealing with a small problem we had, and Emma B and Sue in the dining room felt like friends by the time we left. Highly recommend this hotel!

We travelled down to Wetheral for the weekend (5th April) to meet up with family, as it’s exactly halfway between a few of us—and I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the village is.

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the Crown Hotel and its beautiful grounds. The service throughout our stay was excellent, with every staff member we encountered being friendly and helpful.

Our room (254) was spacious, clean, and very comfortable—exactly what we needed for a relaxing break. The hotel’s location is perfect too, right in the heart of the village with some lovely walks along the river nearby.

Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere throughout the hotel.

We’ll definitely be returning to the Crown Hotel in Wetheral—highly recommended!

Fabulous overnight stay in the glorious village of Wetheral.|Perfectly situated to just leave the car and explore.|Friendly, helpful, professional staff from start to finish, including booking and online info.|Wonderful room with everything we could need or want. Immaculately clean.|Huge bed with extra comfy pillows. |Food in the bar was excellent…again, couldn’t fault the staff.|Great value for money and would definitely recommend.

Great place, great staff, great location. We used this hotel as a starting point for our C2C bike ride, along Hadrians wall, wish we had stayed longer, good safe parking, bit busy at times, but no problem. Lots of interesting guests to chat to, which we like. We will be going back.

Very comfortable hotel with kind and helpful staff. We stay here quite often and it is always good. Excellent meal in the restaurant and very well looked after by Emma
