Had a great stay in the Dam Head property operated by Kate and Moira. The cottage was very comfortable, clean, and located in the great village of Roughlee. Great to catch up with Moira a bit, although our schedules did not allow for more time together, and also very good to connect with Kate. Kate and Moira are great hosts and focused on making sure the guest are comfortable and enjoy their time in the countryside.||||The village of Roughlee is located in a beautiful region of the Northern England countryside, close to historic and picturesque villages and market towns. The countryside is gorgeous. Even misty and overcast weather adds to allure of the region, but it is simply spectacular when the sun breaks through the clouds to highlight the various shades of lush countryside. ||||The area has numerous pubs and restaurants serving excellent food and the microbrew scene in England producing excellent locally produced ales, ciders and perries. The annoying and misplaced notion of "bad food in England" has long been replaced with an ever increasing standard for excellent food using an abundance of locally raised and grown ingredients. If people still think English food is bad or bland after visits to the outstanding and award winning pubs and restaurants in the area, they should question their perspective of taste and knowledge of "good food." ||||A small list of excellent, notable and award winning pubs and restaurants within a 30 minute country drive around the cottage include the consistently popular and very good Inn at Whitewell, the sublime daily menu at the White Swan in Fence (if you are lucky enough to have breast of Pigeon on the menu, order it and you wont be disappointed), the Fence Gate and Sparrow Hawk also in Fence, the Red Pump in Bashal Eaves recently renovated by warm and friendly owners Jonathan and Fran, (if you want a great steak, the Red Pump probably has the best locally raised beef in the area), the Aspinall Arms and Three Fishes on either side of the River Ribble, the Eagle in Barrow, the Assheton Arms in the idyllic village of Downham, the elegant Northcote, the award winning Swan with Two Necks in Pendleton, Free Mason Arms in Wiswell, and Angel Inn in Hetton. ||Again, just a small list of excellent pubs and restaurants in the area.

Excellent accommodation, very comfortable beds, really cosy with lots of little extras to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable.
Very friendly and welcoming, I have stayed regularly while working away from home and staying here is calm and relaxed, its' quiet and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery.
Breakfasts are wonderful whether you opt for the do it yourself option in the room or the gourmet cooked option. They go the extra mile to make sure you have a breakfast to suit you.

We booked for one night in Blacksmiths Cottage as a short weekend getaway. It is unusual to be able to book a full cottage for just one night, but this was a great find. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you would need (wood burner, dishwasher, microwave, kitchen etc.) and you can walk to Pendle Hill and the surrounding area straight out of the door. The cottage has two bedrooms, but links to another cottage so may be good for larger parties too. There are seats in the shared gardens at the front of the cottage with a private patio for the cottage at the back. ||We ate at the Bay Horse Inn which was a 10 minute walk down the road and you can walk to Barley (1.5 miles away) along the river or along the road the other way. The cottage had a full kitchen, so you could stay in too if you prefer. ||We will return and book for longer than one night for our next trip.

We stayed this time in the studio which was comfortable and well designed. The Bay Tree pub and restaurant is good to have a short walk away. Dam Head is so worth visiting - peaceful, very scenic and Moira and Kate are excellent hosts. We will be back again

Me and wife visited yesterday and as a young(ish) couple we thought it looked like a weekend we wouldn't have super fun. We loved it. Amazing room enhanced by the great weather and scenery. The local pub was great and Moira's breakfast was incredible. We then went to the local witch shop and visited the church. We will be back.

Only one night and one breakfast. Far too short. Beautiful location and great accommodation - a lovely room and a very comfortable bed. I great nights rest after a long drive. The breakfast was excellent quality and a generous portion. Only a short drive from my meeting in town.

We received a voucher for a nights stay here as a wedding present. ||||The room its self was really lovely but they are disorganised. When I booked I asked for a double and they said this was fine. On the email confirmation I was advised I booked a twin, so I emailed back asking for a double. Again they said this was fine. I also attached my voucher to the email so they had it.||||At check in we got a twin. I didn't say anything, it was late afternoon when we got there and I didn't think it was worth the hassle for one night. I didn't like the internal door that lead to what I think was the kitchen in the main house, you could hear everything, even spoons stirring cups. I wasn't bothered about their noise, I was more bothered about my own privacy!||||The day we left I went on holiday. When I got back I had an email asking for my voucher. And then another saying if I didn't send it they would send me a bill. I advised I'd already sent it and didn't appreciate the threat. Instead of apologising they asked me to send it. I sent it again. So I feel I had to give "poor" as I wouldn't recommend anywhere with that attitude to anyone, let alone return myself.||||This let them down and was a shame, as the room really was really beautiful. As was the breakfast, amazing.||||The restaurant just down the road does immense food and it's not too expensive either. Busy, so book if you can.

Stayed in the little studio. Ideal apart from the double bring 2 singles that had wheels. Should be easy enough to sort that. Tastefully decorated. Nice views. Handy for walking. Not too far to walk for dinner.
