I can't speak for the inn itself but the food and service here are outstanding and consistently so!

Always happy to help you pick your cut and they cook the meat to perfection and according to your preference.

The meat is simply seasoned and thrown on the fire and the results are just incredible. Great quality meat cooked simple but well to let said quality shine through.

The sides are also delicious and good portions.

Drink selection is great.
The staff is genuinely lovely.

Very dog friendly too!

What more can one ask for?
Would highly recommend and can't wait to be back.

We stumbled upon this pub after a visit to the nearby prison museum. We walked in wanting a drink and a snack but after seeing the fire pit and butchery being done we looked at the menu and ended up staying for a 3 course lunch! The starters of bone marrow and the scallops were delicious, followed by a sharing board of meats with the highlight being the short rib. And the toffee crisp cheesecake was divine! Service was great and lovely to chat to Frank. If we are back in the area we would definitely return!

Fabulous local beef cooked to perfection.
What a find, we will be back. Our dog enjoyed his steak treats from the chef!
Great value, we saw the prices but then realised the steak came with chips, salad and peppercorn sauce, so actually for the meat quality it was a great price.
Puddings are very large and the sticky toffee pudding was excellent.

The food is always incredible here. This weekend we arrived thinking our online booking had gone through but unfortunately it hadn't. Despite it being very busy the manager did everything she could to squeeze us in.

About 45 minutes from Exeter on a wet and windy day for Sunday lunch. I’m 69 and without any doubt this is the best roast I’ve ever had.
Service, atmosphere and amazing food. Very decent pint of bitter as well.

Beautiful place and restaurant. The only issue is, when choosing a piece of steak, we were told that the only way chef would cook it, is the only way chef would eat it. Which meant rare. I don’t like rare, and my husband hates it. We came to a compromise. Unfortunately when served, it wasn’t rare, it was raw. This cost £100! I just wish that I had been served food that I enjoyed eating. Unfortunately I won’t return. We have supported this establishment and the chef, but we felt that we just weren’t listened to. Indeed we were told next time the chef would only cook to his desire for each cut. It’s a bit of a liberty, especially when you try to support local. Maybe listen to your customers.

A lovely, comfortable stay. The staff were super friendly and accommodating when we requested a last-minute, early check in. Our room was spacious and comfortable, offering a wonderful view across Dartmoor. Unfortunately we weren't able to have dinner in the restaurant - though the steaks looked amazing! Breakfast was included and was delicious
