The hotel is well located at Monk Bar, where you can join the walls walk, or go through to the old city and cathedral. We were lucky to get one of the 16 car parking spaces, though not cheap at £25 per night. The Monk Bar public car park is a short walk. We had requested a quiet room, and our Deluxe King looked over a courtyard, away from the busy road. The room was a good size, and had an efficient aircon device which controlled temperature and ran quietly. Unfortunately, the bathroom was tiny, and the combined tub/ shower had a small screen with a gap at the bottom, so it was impossible to shower without creating a pool of water on the floor. There was evidence of others suffering this, as the wooden bath panel showed evidence of water ingress. We'd had written confirmation that the Deluxe King included shower robes, but they were not provided, and I had to show the receptionist an email confirming this, as apparently I had been given the wrong information. They were then provided. The Yorkshire Pantry serves reasonable food for breakfast and in the evenings, but the bar area is not particularly welcoming. The hotel gets busy with coach parties arriving and departing, and the reception staff do seem under pressure at times. It isn't always easy to get staff attention. Overall, fairly average and I would seek something better next time.

Great location for York city centre and friendly staff but the standard rooms are dated and are not being well maintained. Cleanliness could certainly be improved too. Furthermore, the rooms are extremely noisy, partly due to the age of the building, but this is not ideal during the night.

Breakfast is average for the price and multiple items were not available even after being requested.

The amenities, such as the bar and gym are clean and well-equipped but do not outweigh the negatives of the room.

Location is great. Service is good.
Rooms are less than average.
We stayed at the end of June. Rooms are hot and the AC is only blowing slightly cool air. Not enough to cool the room. Hard to sleep when it's too warm and uncomfortable.
They gave us a small fan to help. It burnt up and stopped working.
They had no more because other guests were using them.
I wanted to get a good night's sleep but I can't when it's too hot.

Update: they sent someone to purchase several new fans. I was able to get one before bedtime and was able to get some sleep.

Absolutely lovely hotel, just a couple of minutes walk from the city. Easy checking in, and were given a lovely warm cookie each. Room was a lovely size, quiet and well equipped with no silly flashing lights overnight. Breakfast was your usual standard hot buffet, but there was plenty of choice of other bits and pieces, and it's a light bright room that doubles as a bistro.
There is a gorgeous courtyard where we had a lovely evening drink. The bar and foyer are bright and inviting with lots of little private cubby holes. Highly recommend when in York!!

We found ourselves without a place to stay at midnight, when our B&B did not work out. This hotel was nearby, so we popped in to ask about availability. They were full, but the clerk, Paris, allowed us to use their wifi to try and find another hotel. Then, Paris actually started calling other partner hotels to help us out. It turned out that York was pretty full due to students on holiday, so Paris suggested we try Leeds. We stayed at a Hilton hotel in Leeds, which worked out great, and Paris booked us at the DoubleTree by Hilton York for the next night. We loved staying here. This is a GREAT location for walking to the Shambles and to the York Minster. In fact, the visiting choir performing at the Minster that day was also staying at this hotel. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and even luxurious for us compared to other places we stayed during our trip to England. We are so glad we stumbled into this hotel. We'll be back! And an extra special thanks to Paris and to Tophan for going above and beyond this customer's expectations, and making us feel valued!

We recently stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton York as a party occupying four rooms. Unfortunately, our experience was far below what one would expect from a Hilton-branded property.

Out of our four rooms, three had non-functioning air conditioning. With unseasonably warm weather, the rooms became unbearably hot, making it nearly impossible to sleep. While portable fans were provided, they stopped working halfway through the night due to a circuit overload. Adding to the discomfort, the balcony windows could not be opened to allow in the cooler night air.

When we brought the issue to the front desk, it was clear staff were already aware of the AC problems. However, no solutions or alternatives were offered. No room changes, no apologies, not even a small gesture of goodwill.

One of the rooms had an additional issue: a faulty shower door that failed to contain water. The bathroom floor flooded with every use, and judging by the condition of the floor, this problem had clearly been ongoing for quite some time without repair.

At breakfast, we overheard other guests complaining of similar maintenance issues, indicating these are not isolated incidents. While the front-line staff were generally kind and professional, it’s apparent that the general manager is not maintaining the property to even basic operational standards.

This hotel does not meet the expectations of the DoubleTree or Hilton brand. Until major repairs and management changes are made, I strongly recommend avoiding a stay here.

Had a deluxe room, not sure if they are all deluxe mind lol. Hotel was lovely, lobby and bar area. Short skip into the Centre although I was there for work lol! Room was huuuge! Bed lovely and bathroom also nice. Always relieved when we manage to book a double tree tbh! Only gave it 4 as toilet didn’t flush well and air con not working, didn’t bother making a fuss as only there one night.

Really loved the hotel, good service and kind and accommodating staff, were there to help with everything and were so kind to us! The only thing was that we weren’t able to watch anything on tv like Netflix or any other streaming services and we couldn’t connect our phones to watch anything either so in the evening there was literally nothing to do. There also was no microwave or fridge for us to use for our takeout, or ventilation in the bathrooms or proper windows. The fan was also a struggle to use, wish there was an AC or something similar instead. Spent so much time outside of the hotel room because it wasn’t enjoyable.
