We joined another 2 couples who stayed Saturday, we arrived Sunday and took advantage of the £109 dinner B&B offer, we weren't expecting anything fantastic for thus price but we were wrong. The dinner was fantastic, all 6 of us were very pleased. The young lad Cane was super efficient, professional, polite, friendly and was a great ambassador for the hotel. Drinks in the bar were reasonably priced, our bar bill between the 6 if us was high but we did sup a lot! could do with music in the background to create a little ambience! Breakfast was fantastic. How they do this for the price is amazing and we will be looking for future deals to return and enjoy. Thank you. |Mr & Mrs Caden

went here for my 80th and to see hubbies name on the lifeboat at Whitby. We had a very long journey and were absolutely famished on arrival at 5 ish. Motorways had been rammed. Check in was faultless and my room 2 was lovely. Getting in I put the kettle on straightaway. NO biscuits on the tea tray! We went to the garden and had tea on the terrace. Waiter brought me 2 small biscuits. Anyway room 2 is lovely. Huge and like a suite. View of the garden Huge bed , good pillows ,nice bedding. Views of the terrace. Dinner was ok but not fantastic. I had a small dessert after a small starter and main. Rhubarb crumble lovely! My sons booked my room to make sure I was on the flat with a walk in shower. Bathroom was bright and clean however I did not notice any toiletries until morning. There were none so I had to walk and find someone before I could shower. I did not find a hair dryer in the room . Small important details were overlooked. This should not happen in a hotel today. The hotel is charming with many period details . Radio in the lounge worked! Gorgeous lounge stained glass window. |I had a lovely time but it was just nice to be with my sons on that lovely day.

So we are here at the moment and really like this hotel, we have been before and have regular trips to Whitby and will look to make this one of our top 5 to frequent. My partner is currently suffering from poor mobility and the fab receptionist moved our room when she realised this. The room is light and airy and spotless. We have come for two nights and the dbb rate is in our opinion exceptional good value ..our evening meal tonight was lovely...we have yet to taste the breakfast ..if it is a nice as tonight it will be great. The service so far has been really good .

We spent one night here taking advantage of the dinner bed and breakfast deal and felt it was great value for money, dinner was fine, room was comfortable and setting was extremely peaceful. Room 9 looks over the garden and has a modern bathroom, beautiful old windows and so so peaceful. The bar is atmospheric and the drinks prices for an hotel are very reasonable. All the staff we encountered were friendly and engaging. Bed mattress maybe due for replacement and pillows not too comfy. Maybe a bit of music in the dinning room at night and breakfast would provide a bit more ambience. However for a relaxed one night great value break this takes some beating.

I don't know what has changed since we stayed last time but we were disappointed this time. The portions of food at dinner, although very nice, were very small. One carrot baton and one small, thin piece of parsnip and about a tablespoon of mashed potato accompanied the meat. I'm sure putting a few extra vegetables on the plate would certainly make the food appear much better value for money. We also noticed the carpets on the stairs had not been vacuumed at all during our visit and had lots of bits on them. The gardens needed a lot of attention. The grass was overgrown and there were lots of weeds. I understand the hotel was up for sale recently so not sure what has happened there. We hope things improve. I don't know if the management read any of these reviews so they can address them.

We ate here on a Saturday eve in June.
When we arrived we were informed that the choice on the fixed menu was limited due to selling out of the favourite. I was offered a burger instead - not my idea of dining out! The burger was dried out and burned in places. The other courses were equally disappointing. The dining area lacked atmosphere. The staff were rude and ungracious, in particular the lady behind the bar.
We will not be returning nor recommending to anyone.

The building is easy on the eye but the grounds need work as they are somewhat dilapidated in places The room was clean and reasonably well maintained. The bathroom was a bit of a problem as the sink would not hold water making it difficult to shave as there was no shaver socket. I reported it to reception who said they would get it fixed. It wasn’t during my stay. In the room was a notice which stated what to do if during the night and that was to telephone a mobile number as reception wasn’t manned. There was no telephone in the room so you would need a mobile number. I queried this with reception and receptionist told me a telephone was left at the front desk for emergency use. Not much use if you were trapped in the room by a fire preventing escape to reception. My question wasn’t answered. I was disappointed that there was no information in the room giving details of meal times, departure time and whether or not there was a night porter service which I don’t believe there was. I was very surprised that the hotel bar closed at 10.30pm!!|The public rooms were spotless and well appointed|The breakfast was adequate but I was surprised that accompaniments to the breakfast were unavailable only to be told they had run out this was on a Saturday of a bank holiday weekend. Disappointing
