Met an old friend for lunch here having not been here for many years and was very very pleasantly surprised. The pub is in a superb location on the edge of the river, perfect for a potter about or a leisurely stroll as well as central for some really good Dartmoor walking. This is a lovely old Dartmoor pub, all its features retained with lovely old oak settles, proper fire in a log stove, whilst being comfortable and welcoming. (The toilets were immaculately clean). Good range of ciders - can't comment on the beer asI don't drink beer. The staff were superb- very warm, humorous, couldn't do enough. Food was very very reasonable with large portions (jacket potatoes, baguettes, pizza, as well as a good range of the usual fish and chips etc) and tasty nosh for a more than reasonable price. I had to ask them to check the bill to make sure they had charged us for everything as it seemed just too low for the good meal we had enjoyed. We ended with a pot of tea that yielded 6 cups but was only charged as one pot for example and the landlady wouldn't charge us anymore - we compromised by asking her to put the change in the tip jar. Very jolly, cheerful staff who seemed to really enjoy their work make such a difference. We will definitely be meeting there from now on.

Horrific!||The Inn was recently taken over. We used to regularly take our dog after a walk in the area. However this month we discovered a hunt pack (dogs and horses) setting off in the car park.||My dog was previously attacked by a hunt pack and is terrified of them now.||Worse still, the hunt the inn was hosting is known to break the law by hunting foxes, including the use of terriers (drone footage is publicly available).||The new landlady is known to be pro-hunt and actively takes part.||Such a shame. Previously was a lovely pub with great vibe.

The staff and atmosphere are lovely , inside was warm and cosy.
However .. the prices are extortionate for food quality. £17 each for kids sausage chips and beans. £17 for sausage and mash , which was advertised as butchers sausages , garlic mash and red onion gravy but this is what was presented, plain instant mash and 4 small children’s sausages with plain gravy. All the other meals were fine but definitely over priced.

Popped in this pub today as our usual spot was fully booked,
Ordered our food it didnt seem busy only a few tables in there and most of them were already eating, waited over an hour for our food, which was just burgers and chips, the burger was lovely but the chips were hard and cold,
Cosy little pub but it was absolutely freezing inside, came out with numb cold toes never been in a pub and been so cold. Lady behind the bar seemed friendly and very busy as she was serving drinks and running out food.

Absolutely fabulous evening was enjoyed at the East Dart. We were welcomed on our arrival and enjoyed our drinks at the bar chatting to locals. The food was well presented and tasted even better. The steak was cooked to perfection… The wine selection was also very good. If you have room, I would highly recommend trying one of the home-made desserts. Karen and her team are doing a fantastic job and deserve this moorland hotel, pub and restaurant to be a success.

We received the warmest of welcomes from Karen on arrival and her jovial personality shone through for the whole of our visit. Our room was not furnished in our style but it's individuality did not stop it being comfortable. We were spoilt for choice when it came to selecting our evening meal from the fabulous menu. Our choice of lamb rump with pea and mint puree and palenta chips was delicious but our one criticism was the lack of any veg. Breakfast was of the usual self service style with the option of a cooked meal if required. Overall a pleasant experience and in todays economic climate not bad value for money.
