We popped in yesterday just for drinks and something to eat, sat out in a wonderfully kept beer garden, all the staff were excellent, good choice of 2 real Ales and plenty of other choices. We are not really foodies but must say the menu is the best we’ve ever seen, And could understand the whole menu, the food we had was wonderful and everyone else seemed really happy with there’s. Great choices all round for everyone ie vegan, celiac and others available. |Great recommendation from our local accommodation host. We can certainly recommend and look forward to return visits if ever in the area again. 👏👏👏

Now I like a moan as much as the next man but the ellerby has me stumped. The place is immaculate. The room was beautifully presented, the bed was very comfortable and the en suite was very nice and clean. The garden is a really nice place to be out in the sun and it even has a half hourly bus service to whitby. The food was amazing and the portions were very generous (and I can eat).
The best part though i have to say was the staff. Everyone there was so happy and friendly, it was infectious. . Even the cleaning staff, and it was red hot when we stayed all had a smile om their faces and said hello.
We took our dog for the weekend and she was catered for as well as us. She had a little welcome pack with treats and a blanket to sleep on and was given a sausage every morning at breakfast.
I really don't see how they could do better really. We only went for the weekend but I could happily spent a fortnight there without fear of getting bored.

Absolutely fantastic all round. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The menu was reasonably extensive with something for everyone and a competitively priced wine and beer menu. However, the hotel jewel is the staff. Each and everyone of them go out of their way to make your stay with them very special. They are a credit to the hotel ownership.
I couldn't say a negative thing about any aspect. Thank you.

We popped for a family member's birthday treat at the Ellerby Residential Country Inn and were really impressed with the relaxed atmosphere and warm service. It's tucked away just inland from Runswick Bay — a quiet spot with proper coastal countryside charm.

One highlight is the 3-mile walk to the beach, which is well worth the effort if you're feeling brave enough to tackle the hills! The scenery along the way is gorgeous, and it makes reaching the coast feel even more rewarding.

Back at the inn, the food definitely didn’t disappoint. I went for the small steak pie and mash, which was more than generous and absolutely hit the spot. The pastry was golden and the filling proper comfort food. The menu overall is hearty and well-priced — a solid choice whether you’re staying overnight or just popping in for a meal.

A brilliant little spot for walkers, food lovers, or anyone wanting a peaceful North Yorkshire escape with character.

We stayed at the Ellerby in 2024 for a week. I'd had lung cancer surgery and really needed a break. We had the best time. They were upgrading the bedrooms. We stayed in room 3 the bed was amazing so comfortable. We are going back to stay again in August for 4 nights. We have got room 1 which has been upgraded I was informed. The food is fantastic so tasty. Looking forward to seeing all the lovely staff and owners.

We've just returned from another wonderful stay . We stayed in rooms 10 and 11 which has small patio areas with tables and chairs so Sunday was great to sit out in the sunshine. The rooms are lovely and spacious with the most comfortable beds to sleep in. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. And Bailey 🐾.too.|The menu is substantial covering gluten free and others with dietary conditions. |The food is amazing and the portions are generous. We are there all three nights of our stay. Breakfasts are equally amazing too. |I could give The Ellerby 6 stars as an overall review of our stay. Thank you everyone for making our stay so great ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great location for Whitby and the surrounding area. Breakfast choices were excellent and well cooked using quality ingredients. Evening meal was fab. The crab salad is highly recommended! What made the stay was the very attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble and always served with a smile.
