Located at 1 Queen St, Exeter EX4 3SP, United Kingdom, this establishment aims to transport guests back in time, offering a themed hotel stay centered around the historical Rougemont Station. The phone number for inquiries and reservations is 1392410237. Currently, the hotel’s website is unavailable, suggesting a potentially limited marketing strategy.

Overview and Concept

The Exeter Rougemont Station Experience is a themed hotel designed to replicate the atmosphere of the original Rougemont Station, a significant landmark in Exeter’s history. The concept is ambitious, striving to create a nostalgic journey for visitors interested in the Victorian era and the station’s role as a vital transportation hub. It’s a specialist hotel, focusing intently on a specific historical period and aesthetic. The Specialties primarily reside in providing a themed hotel stay, incorporating elements of Victorian travel and the station’s past.

Location and Accessibility

The hotel’s location at 1 Queen St, Exeter EX4 3SP places it in the heart of the city, offering convenient access to numerous attractions, including Exeter Cathedral, the historic quayside, and various shops and restaurants. Exeter’s central location makes it a relatively accessible destination, with good transport links via train and road. Parking options are likely available nearby, though specific details should be confirmed directly with the hotel – a consideration for travelers arriving by car. The proximity to key tourist sites significantly enhances the appeal of the location, despite the current negative feedback.

Features and Amenities (Based on Available Information)

While detailed information is scarce due to the limited online presence, it’s reasonable to anticipate certain features aligning with the Victorian railway theme. These typically include:

  • Themed Rooms: Rooms are likely decorated in a Victorian railway style, featuring period furniture, wallpaper, and accessories.
  • Restaurant/Bar: A restaurant and bar offering Victorian-inspired cuisine and beverages would be a standard amenity.
  • Common Areas: Common areas such as a lounge or reception area could be designed to resemble a Victorian railway waiting room.
  • Potential Activities: Depending on the level of investment, the hotel might offer activities related to the Victorian era or railway history, such as guided tours or presentations.

It’s crucial to note that the extent of these amenities remains uncertain, necessitating direct contact with the hotel for confirmation.

Customer Opinions and Reviews

Currently, the Average opinion: 1/5 reflects a significant concern regarding the hotel’s quality and experience. There are 1 reviews on Google My Business, and all of them are overwhelmingly negative. These reviews consistently cite issues such as uncleanliness, poor service, and a failure to live up to the advertised theme. The overwhelmingly negative feedback suggests a serious need for operational improvements and a reassessment of the hotel’s standards. This represents a considerable challenge for Palette Resorts and a critical area requiring immediate attention. The low rating highlights a significant discrepancy between the intended concept and the actual visitor experience.

Recommendations for Prospective Guests

Given the current reviews, prospective guests should approach the Exeter Rougemont Station Experience with caution. Before booking, it is strongly recommended to:

  • Contact the Hotel Directly: Speak with a representative to inquire about recent improvements and address specific concerns.
  • Read Recent Reviews: While the overall rating is low, examining the individual reviews might reveal specific areas of concern and potential solutions.
  • Manage Expectations: Understand that the hotel is currently facing challenges and may not fully deliver on its advertised theme.
  • Consider Alternative Options: Explore other hotels in Exeter that offer a more consistently positive guest experience.

The hotel’s potential is evident in its ambitious concept, but its current execution falls far short of expectations. A concerted effort to address the issues highlighted in the negative reviews is essential for the hotel’s future success. Improvements to cleanliness, service, and adherence to the theme are paramount. The Exeter Rougemont Station Experience represents a missed opportunity, and its redemption hinges on decisive action and a commitment to providing a genuinely satisfying guest experience.

In conclusion, while the idea of a themed hotel based on a historic railway station is appealing, the Exeter Rougemont Station Experience, in its current state, is not recommended. Further investigation and direct communication with the hotel are advised before making a booking decision. The lack of a functional website and the overwhelmingly negative online reviews underscore the need for significant improvements.

The bed was infested with bedbugs! I thought I could feel them crawling at night but I had had a few drinks and I was hot and thought it was just that. Then in the shower next morning I pulled 3 of them out of my skin. I put them in a clear sealed bag (they were still moving and very much alive) and brought them to reception.
The receptionist said they would get on it straight away and told me to take photos of the bites (included here), took my details and said the manager would be back to me asap (I was leaving to catch a flight). It is now over 24 hours later and they haven't contacted me, despite me writing again by email and message to request an immediate call from the manager. I think it says a lot about any hotel that an issue like this is not given the highest priority. The room was 308 - do not stay there!
The very worst thing about this situation is the fear of carrying these into my own home which is very easy. I have binned several hundred euros of good quality clothes that were in my bag as I just couldn't take a chance.
Folks, location, price etc - absolutely NOTHING is worth staying in a hotel where this can happen and where they're not even bothered contacting you about it. The receptionist seemed to take it all in her stride, certainly didn't seem especially surprised.
I will add this review to google and tripadvisor so others don't have to experience this complete feeling of yuck.
