Lovely site, lovely spot, lovely people. Exactly what we wanted, and the staff were very accommodating of changes up to and including us not arriving on the first night we had booked. The site facilities are excellent, kept in top condition and very clean. The abbey/priory ruins at the heart of the site are beautiful and fascinating. The river is another great bonus. It’s a place I’ll be back to if I ever need an overnight stay near Durham again.

A little hidden gem. Fabulous site, toilet block looks basic but it’s immaculate and lovely and warm. Site is small but honestly lovely location. Nice river walk. The team are great, really pleasant. There are a couple of plots where u will need choxs but they can provide them.

Lovely Caravan Site. Facilities were spotless. Plenty of Walks from the Site. Abbey was extremely interesting. Cycled along a Cycle/Walking Path into Durham. We shall definitely be doing a return visit.

Fell in love once we got there. We were only going to stay Friday till Sunday but once we arrived we extended till Tuesday. What a wonderful peaceful place. Shower/toilets are very clean. They allow Dogs, which is a must for us. Good walking. Cookeden Woods is just beautiful. We had a great time and would definitely go again.

Spent a couple of nights here in the van. Very nice peaceful site midweek with an easy cycle route into Durham which could be done on foot aswell, although it does sort of take you through the middle of the prison at one point!
Some pitches look OK but most are far from level, and the hard standing ones are only just big enough to fit a small van on so be prepared so do some serious levelling (chocks are provided)
Facilities block is very good and kept very clean. Showers are a good size and you get a decent time length from the push button.
It's all done remotely with entry details sent via email so you don't have a personal greeting, and the reception isn't obvious as it looks like it's part of the Abbey set up. But once you find it there are some interesting leaflets and if you need wifi you can get it there but not on the site.

Very well run site in a lovely setting. Great shower/toilet block. Stay in A1-4 for the most level pitches and an unimpeded view of the beautiful priory ruins.

We had booked a hard standing pitch but hadn’t expected a slab of concrete barely big enough for a small camper van.
Pitches are very small and question whether they meet current legal requirements.
This is supposed to be an ‘adult only’ site but for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed there were families, with children, staying there so definitely NOT ADULT ONLY.
The surrounding grounds are lovely but the campsite is very cramped, facilities clean but not adequate for the number of pitches.
The ‘Priory and grounds’ are open to the public so lots of noise during the day from children clambering all over the ruins or splashing in the river.
As for the supposed views from the campsite, ours was of the car parking, bins and shower block…..lovely…Not….
Definitely won’t be returning….
