Two night stay in a premium room on the first floor (room 6). The building where the rooms are is at the back of the Inn, and separately accessed.|You enter this (room 6) accommodation from the carpark, into a private hall. The door at the top opens into the bedroom/sitting room area, and then around the corner there is a bath (in the room). The shower room with double basins is through a door, following on from the bath. This room is very spacious and was good for a base to explore the locality, without getting cabin fever. ||The staff (booking in, bar, dinner, breakfast and cleaning staff) were all very courteous and approachable.||The downside is the pub, it's looking tired on the inside, and the outside is desperate for a repaint. Green King needs to refurb/refresh this inn pronto, it's not a good advert in the home town of the GK brewery. The breakfast was okay and dinner was not the best, so some work needed here as well. ||The reason I am giving a five star is for the accommodation block, which is special, the beer and the overall performance of the staff. ||Last thing and a quick win for GK, please re-think (remove) the plastic flowers/ferns on the tables in the yard seating area, as they are really tacky.

Popped in here on a road trip with my other half. I was impressed with the cleanliness. The pub garden looked lovely. The staff were friendly and the food was cooked well and tasted good, what more could you ask for. It's rare to find somewhere that ticks all the boxes. I'd definitely return if passing again and maybe even check out the overnight accommodation.

The rooms are great we stayed in 6 which was large and very comfortable, the food however was not. We had the steak and ale pie which was was a lovely flavour with mash and veg, the pie was hot but the mash and veg were cold as was the gravy. It tasted like it came out of the microwave unfortunately. The breakfast was also cold no hot plates and no continental buffet on display. Such a shame as we feel this could be great with a few changes. Will stay again but eat elsewhere.

We visited this place last week, myself, my partner and two children, we all loved our meals! Absolutely delicious… the waiter helped my children to make their decision with the chose of desert as they didn’t want any of the adult ones and helped with saying they could have a chocolate brownie and ice cream! … I had a signature burger which was absolutely Devine. The service was very quick and unique to the individual tables. We were absolutely delighted with our meals and also felt the bar was a nice area to grab a drink, if only we didn’t have the children lol! … do pay a visit, Adam behind the bar was very accommodating

We stayed here for one night (Sunday) The hotel is conveniently located close to the centre of Bury st Edmunds and next to the Abbey Gardens. The carpark is a decent size and we could park just outside of our room too. The rooms are all out side by the pub in an old barn conversion. The room was immaculately presented, lovely comfortable big bed, air con, all the usual amenities too. Plus a big bathroom with a bath. The team are super helpful and friendly and the food was delicious, lunch and breakfast. The beer garden is also great and has full sun. Glorious! We even asked If we could keep our car there after checkout while we did some more shopping. Not a problem! Very impressive and will be staying again! Thanks again!

Authentic English Pub - inviting, warm and friendly. They managed to accommodate us for a Sunday roast even though they had many reservations coming soon. The atmosphere is complimentary to the town and it's park and Abby.

Came in for a nice meal with my close family today. Was served by some absolutely incredible staff members who were very prompt and helpful in taking our orders and bringing our drinks, however the time between being seated and receiving our food was shocking. When we (finally) received our food, it was definitely great, but the wait was incredibly disappointing. I feel bad for the staff members that were apologetic about the wait times as they were a delight tonight and definitely made our experience better, but when we are paying for food at a restaurant that wasnt even particularly busy, it definitely disappointed us.

I popped in here for a drink with my family. I ordered a wine spritzer and 3 non alcoholic drinks which came to about 25 pounds. Whilst the pub is beautiful and has lots of periods features the second I walked in I was told they couldn't do food til 6 before I even sat down and when I gave my basic drinks order it seemed to confuse the bar staff no end. Whilst the manager was very accommodating when my daughter spilled ice all over the floor, I felt the other staff were standoffish to the point of rudeness.

A nice place, but perhaps they prefer a certain type of clientele.
