We just spent an excellent weeklong self-guided walking holiday with Rebecca and Andy of Scot Mountain Holidays, headquartered at Fraoch Lodge. A perfect combination of relaxation and challenge. Accommodations are comfortable (not luxe), food is homemade, local and seasonal, walks were suited to our level and interest. We climbed Cairngorm Mountain and walked through historic villages and rewilding eco zones. I canโ€™t guarantee that you will have the good weather we had, but I can guarantee you will have good company, super walks, fantastic scenery, delicious meals, and a sense of home in a gorgeous part of Scotland.

Weโ€™ve just had a lovely stay at the Fraoch Lodge. The place has a very comfy look about it and the food was delicious. We also went on a hike with Andy, one of the owner who knows everything about the scottish landscapes, vegetation and how to avoid crowded places! Amazing experience, we highly recommend it!

I've been wanting to leave a review for months. I stayed here in January 2024 during a mountaineering course and had a fantastic experience. The house is charming, the food was exceptional, and the hosts were extremely friendly. Andy is incredibly knowledgeable about the Scottish mountains and can discuss a wide range of topics. Be sure to ask him about more remote locationsโ€”he's traveled extensively and has fascinating stories, including adventures in places like Pakistan.

We had a lovely stay at Fraoch Lodge. The rooms were great and everything was very clean, well maintained and well decorated. The lodge was easily accessible to Aviemore by bus, and Boat of Garten is a nice area with woods and lochs. Andy and Rebecca were very helpful and welcoming, and we appreciated the accommodation for our dietary needs- thank you for such a good stay! We also loved your garden and its beautiful flowers ๐Ÿชป๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒผ

Very disappointed with the proprietor. She had a 5pm check-in time, which arguably is unreasonably late. After a long drive we tried for a 4pm check-in only to be told rudely to come back at 5pm. We had already made the booking and arranged payment so all she had to do was show us to the room. She served evening meals so on the second night we opted to try one. It was home-made lasagna. I asked for the price and was told 25 British Pound for "the two of you". I thought that a bit steep but okay, and double-checked the amount I would be paying the next morning as we left. When it was time to leave that morning, however, she said the price in fact was 25 BP each for the meal. With two other guests also paying, whe was getting 100BP for a very ordinary dish of lasagna, which also served as her family meal for the evening. For 25 each we could have gone up the road to the pub and had roast venison. A pity because the lodge is nicely positioned, surrounded by woods.

We booked in here as a large group of friends visiting the area for hillwalking. ||||The rooms were lovely, and perfectly adequate for our needs - the drying room is epic for wet gear. It managed to accommodate 13 people's wet walking gear & dry it overnight. Mega bonus!||||The heating is super effective, the house was roasting all the time. Plenty hot water as well. ||||Rebecca's breakfast was really fab, plenty of options, home made jam and bread and good filter coffee - much appreciated by those of us that are caffeine junkies. The kitchen facilities provided again are totally adequate for what we required, reheating and serving a collective meal for us all at night. Short on fridge space but thats the same at every place we stay. We had rented the whole accommodation which was great but I don't think I'd have enjoyed it as much if we were sharing with other groups. The rooms have security codes but the kitchen could have been cramped.||||You are sharing the owners house so it feels a wee bit odd to start with, particularly as we were a big group and could be very noisy. ||||All in all, a great wee place to stay.

We stayed 8 days here for a walking/Wildlife and Whisky holiday with Scot Mountain Holidays,, run by our hosts. Our Guide was Andy who led us very well on 6 excellent walks including Cairngorm itself, he found quite a lot of wildlife for us including mountain hares, dotterels, snow bunting, ospreys, and many mountain plants. We visited a hide where we say badgers and pine martens. We also toured a cooperage and tastes some very good whisky. Rebecca cooked us breakfasts and dinners and provided the makings of sandwiches for lunch, in the guest kitchen, She managed to provide excellent tasty meals for us 3 picky eaters (gluten/lactose free vegetarian). If you are eating your evening meals here then note you must tell her about allergies and preferences in advance as everyone eats the same meal, along with the family, There is Wi-Fi, no television, its quiet and you can walk out of the door into the woods. The hosts are friendly and helpful, we had a very pleasant stay.

My partner and I stayed at this lodge in September 2018. We had been camping in Skye when weather forced us to find more suitable accommodation, the Fraoch lodge was a haven in the loveliest of settings. Well priced, the hosts offer a continental breakfast of home baked bread, home made jams and jellies, cereal, fruit and porridge. A cooked breakfast can be made by request for a fee that includes sausages, eggs and other trimmings (well worth it). There is also a small kitchen for guests to use to make their own snacks, lunches and dinners.|| ||We had come to Scotland to do some mountaineering, but with weather in the Cuillin looking grim, we opted for the rounded summits of the Cairngorms --and this lodge is located right in the national park. For cyclists, runners and walkers the Fraoch lodge is also situated near to forested trails, dirt roads and cycling paths. The lodge's hostess, Rebecca, can give you directions for some of the forest paths (there are many). The lodge's host, Andy, organizes mountain holidays and hiking adventures -- he's very knowledgeable about the area and both he and Rebecca are helpful and have great tips for navigating the Cairngorm trails. As alluded too in the title of this review the lodge is cozy, homey and comfortable with a vegetable, fruit and spice garden in the back. I cannot recommend this place enough!
