Hahahaha There is no chocolate in pain au choclat.
I ordered sausage roll and pain au chocolat today.
I ate the roll in there, took away pain au choclat. I just realized this isn’t the one. I clearly asked the staff for Pain au chicolat, so I’m not sure what happened.
To be honest, I did think it was a bit strange when I saw there was no sign of chocolate on the outside, but I just assumed it would be inside. Could this really not be a pain au chocolat? The staff were very kind —I just disappointed how this mix-up happened.

The baristas here can’t pour a coffee to save their lives. They’re addicted to the steamer and will without a DOUBT serve u half a cup of foam. If u ask them to serve u a fill cup of coffee they will not be happy with u for doubting their (nonexistent) coffee skills. Enjoy paying £4.40 for a cup of foam. Baristas, if you’re reading this, learn how to steam!

(05/04/2025 edit from my original 22/03/2025 review):
Alas, I have been served another cup of foam. I should stop trusting these folk.

I recently visited GAIL's Bakery in Kennington for breakfast and had a delightful experience. We ordered an almond croissant and a slice of chocolate baka loaf, accompanied by a cup of latte. Everything was deliciously fresh and perfectly prepared. The almond croissant was flaky and flavorful, and the chocolate baka loaf was rich and indulgent. Enjoying our meal in the peaceful ambiance of the bakery was truly a morning well spent. Additionally, I appreciated the very clean facilities, including a well-maintained toilet in the basement. Highly recommend for a tasty and relaxing breakfast!

I recently visited Gail’s for my morning coffee and left with mixed feelings—great coffee but an awkward moment in the shop.

When I first arrived, the barista with short hair and glasses was quite sharp with me, snapping when I asked a simple question. Later, I witnessed him become quite aggressive and loud in a heated altercation with his colleagues behind the counter. It was embarrassing and unsettling to see him shouting, then stepping outside for a cigarette break to cool off.

Thankfully, the manager (the lovely lady who stepped in) turned things around. She made me a perfectly balanced cappuccino—smooth, well‑extracted espresso and precisely steamed milk—exactly how I like it. Her kindness and professionalism really demonstrated the high standards Gail’s can offer.

I hope management addresses that confrontation, because Gail’s clearly has talented staff and excellent coffee. I’ll be back for more of that wonderful cappuccino, and I’m confident future visits will be entirely positive.

Since I have moved to Plymouth I miss out on all the excellent pastries of Gail’s. We have been in London for a trip and stopped by for a bite for with my fiancée.Immediately upon entering, we could smell some delicious goodies being baked, and could hear the cheerful banter of the staff. The ambiance was clean and simple, I ordered a strawberry ricotta cake, the best one I have ever tasted - it was heaven in my mouth. Can't wait to return. Staff were friendly and helpful!!

Do not waste your time coming here - Overpriced Scone and cappuccino, which is as dense as bread, served ice cold. The staff member is racist - Charged extra to sit down with no table service - the tray was left in the front for me to fetch while all other tables with white customers were delivered their food. A big waste of 9 pounds for nothing.

Have been a regular at Gails for a while and since this store got a new manager this place turned around. Both standards and cleanliness of the store is on a different level. Will be returning a lot moving forward. Keep up the good work please
