My partner and I had a truly enjoyable evening at the Geirge last night. I ordered the large cod and chips, and it was absolutely fantastic. The cod was so fresh and flaky, coated in a perfectly crispy batter, and the chips were just right, both homemade. My partner, Sarah, raved about her steak pie and mash, commenting on the tenderness and flavour of the steak and the creamy, homemade mash. It was clear that both our meals were made with care and from scratch, which made all the difference. The service was also excellent. We both agreed it was great value for money and would highly recommend to anyone for a delicious and satisfying homemade meal. We can't wait to go back!

A proper local pub. I was staying in the village for a few nights and wanted to eat out. The George turned out to be a welcoming local with good beer, friendly staff and locals and an impressive menu. I had the belly pork with mash and thoroughly enjoyed it, as did my dog, yes they are very dog friendly. Definitely my kind of place

Called in here yesterday after walking to Youlgreave from Alport(15 mins)for a drink, pint of pineapple juice & lemonade, & a J20 was just over Β£6. We decided to have something to eat, they serve hot food until 3pm, then start again at 5pm, I had a hot turkey sandwich, with stuffing(separate in a bowl),& a dish of gravy,& some salad, which was a few pieces of green, tomatoes,& some onion. (Β£10.25),not cheap. The sandwich was lovely on brown bloomer bread, decent turkey breast pieces inside, very nice. My husband went for a large cod & chips(Β£18.50), which came with peas,& the same salad as the sandwich, definitely not cheap, but it looked lovely, and he said it was as he started eating it, however as he worked his way to the middle of the fish he said the batter on the inside next to fish was quite thick & almost like a pudding, almost still a bit wet, where it wasn't cooked as well as the thinner outside edge. I also noted that the salad was underneath the fish on the plate so made it a bit warm, which didn't appeal, I think a bigger plate would be a good idea then everything has it's own little place on it. Such a shame as it looked gorgeous, but overall just didn't feel it was worth the money, normally we do say something if food isn't up to standard but he had had enough by then, so we did just leave what he didn't want. Friendly land lady,& they do welcome dogs as well.

Mushroom Stroganoff with Vegan creme that was not in the advert or menu tasted like a mushroom curry. The management refused to refund. Awful treatment.

Visited the pub rather than the rooms. Bustling little pub busy atmosphere but I felt drinks were on the expensive side at over Β£10 for 2 larger shandy's.
