My husband and I travelled up to the Glenesk Hotel at the beginning of June and had the most perfect stay. We had just gotten married a few days before and were looking for a quiet mini moon. The hotel itself is located in the very sleepy but pretty town of Edzell ||The staff at the hotel were so kind and helpful, going out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The lovely owner upgraded our room to a junior suite which was very beautiful. ||We took full use of the pool/sauna and steam room facilities. As the hotel was quiet we had this all to ourselves, you just have to let someone know you are heading down so they can turn on the sauna. ||The restaurant was also very nice, you book your table at reception and they were very accommodating. The lovely lady who served us both nights was very nice. The food was good, you do really have to eat at the hotel as there isn’t much in the village. ||The breakfast is good also, you pick what hot items you would like the nice before. There is also a small continental section to choose from; cereal, yogurt ||We throughly enjoyed our time away and will most definitely be booking again in the future!

I was gifted an afternoon tea from my best friend in March. Just getting around to reviewing the afternoon. The decor in the front room of the hotel was lovely. However, we were the only two people to be seen in the hotel. Whilst this may be seen as blissful and private, it was a tad odd. |The selection of choices on the afternoon tea plate was unexciting but adequate, however, the strange thing was being left in a beautiful room with no staff coming in to check that we were ‘fine’. When we requested a wee top up of the tea / coffee, we had to root about the hotel to find a staff member. Unfortunately, the same cups were used which had a small amount of colder tea in them rather than replacing one of the cups.||When we departed, there was no one around at all again to say goodbye to. We simply departed.||Odd, odd, odd. ||I know there is a fine balance between staff constantly badgering a person to see if all is well but this was the other extreme. It was like a ghost town.||The beautiful bar was completely empty which was a shame as it looked a lovely place to have a wee drink of whisky and chill. However,|I noticed the whisky was very expensive in the bar and in keeping with high end London inner city prices rather than a small Scottish village hotel. Excessively expensive for every day local malts etc ||What a shame as this could be a busy hotel if prices in the bar were reasonable and in keeping with local prices. The hotel and bar used to be always very busy and it is sad to see it beautifully decorated with no one about.

We received a wonderfully warm welcome at the Glen Esk Hotel. We were passing through the village and decided to pop in for drinks. We had the pleasure of meeting Ritu, the owner who treated us like family. We were so impressed by her hospitality and warmth. She showed us around her beautiful hotel, which she has clearly put her heart and soul into. |All the rooms are beautifully decorated and we really wanted to stay overnight!We decided to sit in the garden to have drinks - it was so peaceful and relaxing and we really didn’t want to leave.

Great welcome and wonderful spirits bar but I'm a beer dude so that was good too.

Food was high quality and attentive service too so I highly recommend this.

The hotel reception areas were sublime too but I never saw any rooms or anything like that so no rating for rooms because of that

I joined a celebration lunch at the Glen Esk Hotel in Edzell recently and had a wonderful experience. Proprietrix Ritu and her highly professional team could not have been more welcoming, attentive & hospitable. The hotel has recently been refurbished and combines restored traditional decor with all modern comforts. Our meal was absolutely superb with a wide choice and excellent service.|The area is delightful with opportunities for hillwalking, wildlife-watching and visiting historic houses & gardens. A stay for a few days at the Glen Esk Hotel to enjoy its hospitality and explore local attractions would be well-worthwhile.

A lunch with friends and one labrador in early April. First class and attentive service from the time of arrival (with a warm welcome by Ritu) to time of departure. |The food for the three course lunch was delicious with a good choice on the menu. Our waitress (Alison) served us with such warmth and her attentivness added a real personal touch that made us feel cared for. Tea and coffee on arrival with a good selection of non alcoholic drinks for car drivers. Throughout our time at the hotel all the staff made us feel special and the whole experience including the effort to prepare the room we used, created a magical ambience and atmosphere. The decoration reflected a refined taste and thoughtfulness that did not go unnoticed. It was a real pleasure from start to finish.

Please Avoid !!! .Family wedding . Farcical running of the day by Ritu . Totally lacking any organisation. PRIVATE USE OF HOTEL ....... MMMM, which I may add was an extra charge . Went to go to Chandiler Room and find a table of strangers sitting having a meal !! When asked Ritu said it wasn't a problem , no not for her , but for the couple who had paid for exclusive use it was . Refund given to the , No !. Prices at bar again farcical, made up as she went along . One guest asked for water for the table , asked will I charge your room !! ,standard that water is on any table when having a meal . The list goes on and on . One Plus , the staff were amazing , they run the hotel and without them Ritu would not have any business . They went above and beyond their duties . Well done to them for having the clients interests at heart . Never Again would I go back
