Booked two ehu pitches for the late August bank holiday weekend. One trailer tent, one tent. This wasn’t a cheap site but I was looking for somewhere quiet and safe (as I was staying on for a week with my son). ||The negatives…||On arrival I was met by an elderly lady who had no idea of the booking in process or paying for an extra car etc. I gave up in the end and just paid. ||The pitches were way too small, the ehu field was full so a lot of people, tents, gazebos, and cars were cramped together. No space for kids to play. ||The toilet and shower blocks are outdated and also dirty due to the water skiers using them. The cleaner did her best but was fighting a losing battle. Toilets were blocked, lights didn’t work, door latches didn’t work, toilet seats fell off, showers were grim, no light above the door so hard to use the key pad … they need to redecorate and reconsider the whole set up. Also, no cleaning appeared to be done midweek despite the water skiers and visitors still using the facilities. This is the first site we’ve stayed at where everyone dreaded using the bathrooms. ||Cars/noise restrictions just weren’t followed. There are a lot of static caravans and a few lodges. Cars would drive past late at night and early morning. | |Wi-Fi is expensive but doesn’t work. ||Never actually located the ‘shop’ despite the signs. ||Church and graveyard didn’t bother us but the bell ringers definitely need more practice!||Positives…||The lake is beautiful, you just can’t see it from the ehu pitches. ||The man running the snack shack (didn’t even know it was there for quite a while though) is amazing, friendly and serves great food. ||We ended up with the while ehu site to ourselves for 4 days (bar one lady in a caravan staying with her dog). But we still had car lights and noise waking us up in the night. ||Overall… ||This is definitely the worst site we’ve ever stayed at and we would not return. Ended up leaving a day early which we’ve never done before. It was too cramped at the weekends and just didn’t feel safe when there was just the two of us midweek.

Liked: Beautiful setting with the lake.
The lady on reception was really friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Code to open the toilets is fiddly, pitches are quite tight together.
A water tap nearer the camping field would be great!

Liked: The setting is beautiful, lovely views of the lake and well kept grounds.
Clean, well managed toilet and shower facilities.
Children loved the play area with sand play.
The snack shack had a good choice of food and yummy luxury hot chocolates.
If you like water sports, you can book water ski-ing, open water swimming. If not its still good to watch.
The wildlife is lovely to see and hear, especially early in the morning.
You can camp or book the annexe if you want more comfortable lodgings.
We enjoyed a 2 night stay with our grandchildren.
The Apple Tree restaurant next to the site has lovely food, reasonable priced, well presented and extremely welcoming, friendly staff.

Disliked: There is not anything to really dislike.
The only thing was our pitch was at the far end so the walk to toilets could be annoying, especially in the night .

Liked: Travelled with RTT plus awning and enjoyed a generously sized pitch with a wonderful view of the lake scenery. Very slight slope could easily be balanced with ramps. Other pitches are level.
Very friendly and helpful owners making my stay even more enjoyable.
Definitely coming back but will book some water activities in advance. I didn't try WiFi as I had a good mobile signal on my pitch.

The electric pitches are very small, felt ridiculously cramped in - luckily we had 2 pitches and could share some ‘middle ground’ otherwise it would have been an absolutely nightmare. No space for the kids to play up by the tents and it’s too far for them to go to the park alone. When a pitch became empty - the kids were playing and the people next to the empty pitch got funny because they wanted to park their car on it 🙄. Not the campsites fault mind. ||Not enough to justify the price. Yes you have the lake but you can’t go in it. A small park and swings. The price for the kids to try the water sports is ridiculous. ||Charging £20 for a gazebo in the UK is also ridiculous- it’s the UK it pours down, the pitches are tiny, it’s not like they’re giving more space; or giving you the gazebo to use. ||That said, the staff were all friendly, the facilities were clean. I guess it depends what you’re looking for. Wouldn’t return anytime soon unfortunately.

Just back! What a wonderful place to stay. We camped next to the lake. It’s a lovely, friendly place with a small amount of pitches. Every child there was thoroughly enjoying the safe freedom given here, no one misbehaved child or dog! Wonderful and friendly. The view took my breath away. Lovely guy who runs the cafe, superb location, kids area with sandpit, toilet and shower facilities were excellent. If you’re right down the further left away camping pitch (as we were) you may want to take a portable toilet with you for overnight, it is a bit of a hike in the middle of the night. Overall fantastic, weekend, highly recommended

Liked: Very clean and well looked after place. Great child play area with the lake view. Clean cleaning facilities and availability of family toilets and showers. Great place.

Disliked: Toilets are a bit too far from the campsite (about 5 min walk) so you have to plan well ahead and as with the child it is a bit tricky. The campsite it self is a bit packed (was there on nearly fully booked weekend) and felt squished a bit.
