This hotel is amazing. We had two rooms and both were gorgeous. The staff are utterly amazing and helpful. The breakfasts were really top quality and the service from the staff at breakfast was exceptional. We have stayed before and we will definitely be back. We love it here. Walkable to the centre of town, whilst being quiet at night. My only request is to put the TV in Fairfax on a swivel arm, as you can’t see it from the bed! Other than that it was an absolutely fantastic experience.

We had an exceptional stay at Gray’s. We stayed for 3 nights and came specifically to experience Chef Ian Doyle’s food, which was incredible. Highly highly recommend the tasting menu in the Bow Room for the full experience.||The hotel itself is extremely charming. We stayed in the Willoughby Room. A really well appointed room with a traditional four poster bed, lovely views over the gardens and the city wall, and a generous en suite with separate bath and shower. The room was comfortable, quiet, warm and very clean. ||The social areas in the hotel are lovely - the long bar is especially nice and all of the beautiful original features have been complimented with new soft furnishings to create an elegant finish. ||The breakfasts are nice - the granola is especially good - but the dinner is really wonderful. There are some a la carte options but we opted for the tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was incredibly memorable - such a sophisticated use of ingredients and subtle flavours. The wine pairings were also very good and the whole meal was enjoyed over 3 hours of delight!||A special word for the staff who were all extremely helpful, friendly and genuinely lovely. I cannot recommend Gray’s highly enough! Thank you.

We had an exceptional stay at Gray's. We stayed for 3 nights and came specifically to experience Chef lan Doyle's food in the Bow Room - which was incredible. The food was incredibly memorable - such a sophisticated use of ingredients and subtle flavours.

The hotel itself is extremely charming. Our room was comfortable, quiet, warm and very clean.

The social areas in the hotel are lovely - the long bar is especially nice and all of the beautiful original features have been complimented with new soft furnishings to create an elegant environment.

A special word for the staff who were all extremely helpful, friendly and genuinely lovely.

Absolutely amazing hotel! Our room (the Somerset) had an outstanding view of the minster, which made it feel extra special. The food was lovely and the staff were all so friendly and kind, especially Morgan, who gave us an interesting tour and had loads of fun history facts about the building. I would recommend this place to anyone. We loved it!

Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. The location is stellar, right next to York Minster Church, although the road into their parking area gave my husband a panic attack (we had rented small SUV - he said why didn't we rent a smart car about a 100 times until he parked)! |It is a luxurious property at every turn, full of history, well maintained and elegant. The staff are lovely and professional, and seem to genuinely enjoy their roles. The room we had was huge, comfortable, spotless and had the most beautiful view via big window of a garden and part of the Minster building. Later, I watched the kitchen staff (?sous chef?) perusing the kitchen garden below our window harvesting items! |We took some time to enjoy drinks out on their lawn - it was heavenly, peaceful and relaxing. We chose to have dinner in their dining room - it was a phenomenal multiple course experience with only one other couple in the dining room - we ended up deciding it was like eating the most delicious pieces of art... breakfast was excellent as well. |Wish we had chosen to stay more than one night at this beautiful property - we hope and plan to return and stay longer next time...

Had an amazing time here for my partners birthday. Such a treat. Ian Doyle and his team are clearly very talented and every aspect of our meal was awesome. The attention to detail was second to none. Every dish was packed full of flavour and beautiful to look at. All the staff were wonderful and the whole experience was a pleasure. Would highly recommend.

I've had the pleasure of shooting at Grays Court in York a few times now, and each time I'm blown away by the beautiful gardens and incredible location. It's also literally steps away from York Minster and round the corner from the Shambles, so easy to access for couple portraits. The bridal suite is perfect for photography too, with lots of daylight spilling in from the large windows that overlook the gardens and the wall beyond. The dining room is perfect for an intimate, elegant wedding. The sunset hits the rock garden at the back of the grounds, so you can escape there for evening portraits. The staff were all so kind and attentive, I felt part of the team when I was there.

Tucked against the city wall, Grays Court is an enclosed oasis of upscale calm just a few yards walk from the Minster. Although the hotel has a history dating from the early Middle Ages, the current décor is described as Jacobean. It has the wonderful feel of a sophisticated, urban manor hall where you will feel like the lords and ladies of a private club. Drappier is the house champagne, one of our favorites; and it seems the common rooms all have perfect corners for enjoying it. The Bow Room restaurant is Michelin listed, and the full, made-to-order breakfast and afternoon tea are exceptional. Of special note, the reception staff is especially welcoming and informed. Our pre-visit correspondence was answered promptly and personally. Honestly, our only regret is we only had time for one night.
