Really lovely stay at the GreyFriars Hotel. We had friends coming from Overseas so we all chose this hotel as it was a great location (in the centre of town), it had complimentary, private parking (plenty of it too) and it was dog friendly. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were huge and spacious. The bed was one of the comfiest we've ever had in a hotel. The bathroom too was huge, with shower and bath. The breakfast (also included) was excellent, with a full choice of continental and cooked breakfasts. Would definitely stay here again.

Not been here before but the location is good and looked inviting. Service was really slow and the type of service (table or at bar etc) not explained. The food took just over 35 minutes to come. The crab pasta was really nice, well presented and tasty. However the fish and chips were a timing disaster. The kitchen did not think to cook the chips with the fish and chips order. They did arrive after we have finished the rest of the meal. Tasty food but overall experience was disappointing. I felt sorry for the party of 10 next to us. With the poor organisation of the establishment, they must have been waiting hours for their food.

Fabulous hotel, we really enjoyed the stay. We had a lovely luxurious and relaxing weekend. Breakfast and Dinner were outstanding. Every member of staff was helpful, professional and polite. We stayed in room 14 and that was exceptional ,spacious, comfortable and relaxing. We loved the zinc roll topped bath. We look forward to visiting again.

We had a delightful one night stay here. The hotel is tastefully restored and well maintained, the room very comfortable.

Really impressive was that, whether at check-in or around the hotel, every member of staff was friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was very tasty, as can be seen in pics (I had asked for tomatoes to be fresh, not cooked).

Absolutely recommended.

Popped in for a coffee with my best mate and his baby, following our suit fittings across the road.
Sat in the lounge which is very much gentleman's lounge-esque. Absolutely great service from the young lad that was serving. They couldn't heat up the baby food in a microwave but he went away and came back with warm water in a bowl to heat it. Didn't expect that at all but shows how the service always is that they go above and beyond.

Beautiful restaurant and hotel in the centre of Colchester. We had the afternoon tea and it was lovely. We had to change our booking and the staff were very accommodating and helpful. The food was delicious, especially the coronation chicken sandwiches and the fruit scones. Thank you so much!

We popped in for a quick drink on our way to the town centre.
It's a bit on the higher priced side, but it's a good place if you want to be able to have a chat.
The room we sat in had the fire on and a rather strange door.
Good size outside seating area, too.
