On the whole a really nice pub with good atmosphere, great staff and interesting decor and features. My only negative comment would be about the food - I had the vegetable massaman curry which was quite bland with just big chunks of carrot and a few small bits of potato. I've eaten this curry before in other pubs and it had a variety of vegetables and a tasty sauce - the sauce on this one was not very tasty at all. The food is quite expensive so expected more. Other than that - highly recommend a visit to this pub.

Steak pie was exceptionally good. It's probably the best we have ever had. Ales were also very good. Great atmosphere and staff very friendly. Our dog was made welcome, and despite being busy, we managed to get a table each night we visited. Bathrooms were clean.

We went here to try the much publicised steak and ale pie.||I recommend booking in advance. The pie takes around 30 minutes to arrive (which is stated on the menu) And it is well worth the wait. I had chips which were lovely also but the pie is the main event here and was fantastic. My wife rarely orders pie but under the knowledge there was no sharing, also ordered it and left none!. The pub was packed (Easter weekend) and so the only drawback was the facilities were struggling a little (it's an old pub with history). I would highly reccomend going here, a lovely meal and worth the wait.||

So glad we found this historic property for our visit to York. Most importantly: Dave Haw's York walking tour as part of your stay. Do not miss this! The Guy Fawkes Inn is bursting with charm and we loved our 4-poster room overlooking the Minster. The room was immaculate and the staff very responsive. Only issue was that the heat got turned off our first night - a little chilly in April! The staff rectified that quickly. These are rooms above a pub/restaurant so there is some noise a little later into the evening - not a problem for us but may be for light sleepers or those with children. The location is perfect - right in the middle of it all and so easy to find your way back after a day's exploring.. just head to the Minster!

Lovely atmosphere, tasty pie and friendly service ! It was Saturday night so the pub was busy - didn’t expect to find a table without booking, but we managed to find a table in the garden area with a big heater. We ordered steak and ale pie which was rather exceptional with lots of chunky meat and flaky crust. Started to rain a bit, a friendly staff suggested we moved to a tented area with fairly lighting. A lovely touch. Overall very pleasant experience.

Having been to Guy Fawkes last year, we decided to return as the food had been so good. Sadly, for some reason, the standard has gone downhill. I had the soup to start. This was a cream of carrot soup that was extremely bland. I found the need to add a quantity of salt to give it any flavour. For my main course, I had the chicken and bacon pie. Expecting the same sort of pie we had last year and the pies Guy Fawkes was famed for, I was very disappointed in the size of the pie. Whilst being very tasty, it was smaller and a much thinner pastry. My wife had the Masaman curry for her main (a favourite curry of ours). Whilst it was not bad, it was not what I or my wife would class as Masaman. So, all in all, it's unlikely we will return to Guy Fawkes for quite some time.

My husband has seen the steak and ale pie reviewed on TikTok so decided to book. The food was absolutely amazing and very filling. My daughter who is a big critic as regards food said the pie was that delicious she didn’t want it to end. Lovely chunky chips and the gravy was to die for. Staff were very helpful. Definitely a must when visiting York.

My son surprised my husband and myself for Mother’s Day, it was very busy but he’d luckily reserved a table in the dining room. Service was pretty slow but it was to be expected, our drinks order came and we all ordered the Sunday lunch with two sides of cauliflower cheese. Our dinner arrived about 50 minutes later but was piping hot and looked wonderful. I had the pork and it was beautiful along with accompaniments, roast potatoes, green beans, chanteray carrots, huge Yorkshires pudding and plenty of gravy. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinners and the side of cauliflower cheese was nice and tasty. I would definitely recommend a visit but advise booking. I’m not sure on prices as it was a treat from our son.
