We just had our wedding reception here and had an amazing time. The day went exactly as planned and the staff were amazing to bring it all together.

The food was exceptional and enjoyed by all. Those with dietary requirements were well catered for as were the children.

The grounds and venue are amazing and idyllic which produced the most amazing photos.

The honeymoon suite is large, well equipped and very comfortable despite being somewhat more expensive than the other rooms (worth the additional fee).

The events team were great at keeping in touch and meeting our needs for our wedding. There was just two niggles but they weren’t a show stoppers. We had hoped for the traditional outdoor Christmas tree but this wasn’t to be and was made up for by having many indoor trees. There was only the bar food menu offered the night before, that said the food was delicious then too (be sure to pre-book if you don’t want a long wait for larger groups).

Be aware of time keeping for meals, you must be prompt otherwise you risk not getting fed without an additional fee. Meal timings are clearly displayed.

It is a great spot for a wedding. I recommend this place for others considering a wedding of this type.

Stayed here for one night this past weekend with my girlfriend.
We were greeted by a friendly receptionist, offered dinner and told about the service times for breakfast the next morning.
We weren’t in need of dinner and checked in after a long drive, and it was getting fairly late. So we just went to our room.
We loved everything about the room. Comfy bed, great water pressure for shower and bath. TV that is easy to connect to your own Netflix.
The choices of hot drinks were great (lovely coffee and hot chocolate)

We slept really well and also enjoyed the magnificent grounds the next morning. This is a historical, old hotel, but it is friendly comfortable and highly recommended.

Our favourite hotel by a mile.

Lovely staff both in the evening and morning. We would love to return soon.

We really enjoyed our stay. Very polite staff, good food, comfy bed and quiet. The service at dinner was a bit slow, but nice food when it arrived! We had a very warm room, almost too warm at times which makes a change at this time of year! Thank you, would return!

I highly recommend anyone considering this hotel to read the 1-star reviews first. A consistent theme emerges: incompetent and rude staff, dusty and mould-infested rooms, and poor-quality food. The number of 1-star reviews nearly matches that of the 4-star ratings, which speaks volumes about the experience guests are having. I also urge you to read the management’s responses to online reviews, as they reveal the attitude and tone you're likely to experience if you're unfortunate enough to stay here. Furthermore, a Google rating of 4 (and probably soon to be 3), tells you what you need to know. My local McDonalds has 4.1.

The hotel grounds and building exterior are wonderful, but it's clear that the current owners and management don’t show the same care and respect for the interior as the original owners did.

I have a gluten allergy, not just an intolerance. I informed the staff on three occasions, and they did absolutely nothing to assist me. Eventually, I had to offer to speak to the kitchen myself, and even then, they couldn’t tell me which dishes contained gluten.

I also had an early 6 a.m. check-out and asked for some food. After asking multiple times, all they could offer me was an apple. However, I didn’t even receive that! Although, I did get complimentary pubic hairs in the room. For £170, I highly recommend staying elsewhere.

One final story about the staff: my friend, who got married at the venue, was understandably busy on the day of the wedding. He asked the staff for a few extra portions of bacon and sausages. They refused and told him he was only allowed one piece of bacon.

Despite all this, I had a fantastic day with my friends celebrating my mate’s wedding

The drive into the property in the dark looked quite special as it was gently lit. There was ample parking but signage to the reception was not particularly good. I waited 10 minutes for someone to check me in, and in the end went through a door marked staff only to find someone. A very startled individual indicated 'someone' was in the bar and disappeared. A short while after someone came to do the check-in. I booked a table for dinner but wasn't told where either the restaurant or bar were. Dinner, apparently the advertised menu isn't available only a 'bar menu' My colleague had the pork belly...the belly was wrapped in gooey fat not crispy crackling as one would expect. Seasonal vegetables mash and some peas and the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of something orange. I had the chicken burger...which was breaded chicken that just tasted of the fryer and wasn't even hot, neither were the accompanying skin-on fries. The waiter had disappeared and as it took about 40 mins for the food to arrive and no one to tell I just ate it, but the waiter came to clear the plates I did say it was cold and he just said he'd tell the chef! The bedroom wasn't very clean and the headboard was loose and wobbled if you moved in the bed. The furnishing was from the early 90s, so tired and dated and the floor hadn't been hoovered. The bathroom had peeling wallpaper and cracked walls and the bathroom was heavily stained. The lighting is not good for applying make-up and there isn't a shaving mirror, but the shower head is adjustable but the roller blind was stained and torn. The bottom of my bedsheet was heavily marked and one pillowcase had holes in it. One of the glasses was broken, so lucky I noticed that before an accident occurred. Breakfast was a far better experience with a friendly and visible waitress. Overall a pretty awful experience that I wouldn't recommend. Also there isn't a lift so you will have to carry bags / case up a narrow, spiral staircase.

Guyer house used to be a exclusive place to stay ,, NOT ANY MORE,, we used to stay about 2011 and 2014 it was definitely a upmarket exclusive place but clearly since the take over about 3 years ago it’s fallen into a bit of decline everywhere needs updating rooms and facilities, our room was cold and needed to ask for heating on rad behind the bed headboard ,the shower with a low beam to hit your head on if over 5’6 talll loose loo seat and what look like black mold on windows,, we payed for dinner only to be told it was not 3 course but 2 course because we had booked with Expedia and not the hotel everything was very average and Minimal,,?the young staff are doing there best to try to keep things going but the truth is plane to see everything is being run on the very basic minimal Amount,, I feel sorry for the staff who are trying very hard but this place has fallen out of the premier league and not even playing local league now ,, by the way the bar area was also COLD and limited drafts beer options even one of the pumps was broken and part of the name plate broken off ,, come on guyer house shape up or sell to someone who does care about its guests

Let me start with the good stuff. What a STUNNING location this is. The whole area is fantastic and well worth visiting.

That's where my enthusiasm for Guyers hotel ends though.

The rooms are dates and dirty (cob webs, mould, etc.) and the heating was temperamental. After staying here, I looked at the reviews (since this was booked for us by a friend) and saw that many people felt the same way. However, instead of owning up to the fact that this is the case, the owner seems to have a smart retort to all of these queries (whatever happened to customer care?).

The food and service was a joke to be honest. I cannot have eggs and asked for the avocado on bread (leaving the eggs off)....that's exactly what I got. I got a soggy piece of bread with half an avocado in the middle. I mean...how? There was NO pride in the food. When complaining about this to the owner, he said: "Well that's what she asked for". The next morning I did get two muffins with a lot of smashed avocado but the owner must have mentioned this about 5 times at breakfast in a bit of condescending way ("Oh, there's more avocado, we'll bring you your avocado soon, etc."). Just laying it on really thick.

The staff was inexperienced. They really tried but some basic skills were just not there.

All in all, I recommend you don't stay here and that the owner looks up the term "hospitality" and stops going into discussion with his guests...

What. A. JOKE.

PS: dear owner, please take responsibility for the fact that this establishment is not run properly. If so many people have the same terrible experience, maybe its not them...it's you.

Rooms were filthy. Not just last guest dirt, but accumulation of filth.
Spiderwebs everywhere and god knows what in the bathroom. See photos.

Worse though was that with a dog barking and howling a couple of rooms down, these concerns were not addressed when I spoke to reception. Other than they told the owners. To be fair the evening lady was as nice as she could be. But the barking continued into the morning, starting again at 0530.

I rang reception at 0600- they got hold of the owner who went back to the room and gave the dog a squeaky toy! I asked for a 50% refund on my room, having only been able to sleep for 50% of the time I'd have liked, I'd have thought this was fair.

No manager was available to authorise this. was offered a call back today - it hasn't happened.

Finally, the place was freezing cold - put the heating on! Central heating means you can't control the temperature of your own room.

I wish I'd read the other reviews before booking this.
