This was a hotel in which I dreamed of staying when we visited Looe many times over the years. So, when we planned my 70th birthday, it was the first choice of where to stay. We booked well in advance, May 2024. After lengthy discussions with the receptionist, Aimee, we reserved Room 614 due to the wonderful views and balcony. It was one of the most expensive at Ā£192 per night for bed and breakfast.|The location of the room did not disappoint as the views were glorious. Sadly, everything else regarding the room did not measure up to expectations. We had asked for sheets, blankets and lightweight duvets both on the phone and in 2 follow up emails. We were assured all would be as requested. Upon arrival at 3.00 pm ( check in time), we found the beds made in the standard format of no top sheet and heavyweight duvets. The receptionist was the same woman as I had spoken to on the phone⦠but the helpfulness was totally absentā¦. Begrudgingly she found the bedding and plonked it in my arms. No offer to take it up for us to the room. |The manage appeared at this stage and took the bedding for me, the receptionist had been very rude and abrupt which I told him. His response was to tell me she was his partner and that she was in pain from a fall. Whilst I was sorry to hear this it did not excuse her rudeness.|Other areas of concern in the room were .. |1. No grouting between the bathroom floor tiles, so I nearly cut my foot the first time I went in barefoot⦠slippers after that.|2. Light switch by door didnāt work so had to use torch to access switch by bed. Moved standard lamp by door.|3. TV in alcove by wardrobe so couldnāt be seen from the bed.|4. Difficult to maintain constant water temperature in the shower.|As for the dining experience that was extremely mixed. First night excellent food in the bar professionally served by Owen(?) who was very helpful through our stay.|Breakfast at weekend was ok.|My actual birthday dinner with friends was spoilt by room temperature champagne which was our pre dinner aperitif so had to go back to be chilled down, so only had it much later. My main course was totally inedible and had to be redone, so I ended up eating after our guests. |A coach party arrived on the Monday and after that the staff just couldnāt cope at all. Breakfast was a disaster on our final morning. But I have gone on long enough.|It was so disappointing after wanting to stay there for 60 plus years.|The owner has a second hotel in Brixham. As it happened, he was making a rare visit to the hotel on the morning of our departure. (We were told by staff he was hardly ever there and they felt he was not really interested in the Hannafore Point allegedly).|We were able to share our concerns. He came to the room with his maintenance man who found the overhead lights had been switched off high up by the curtain pelmet. How were we to know. That the bathroom had had a flood and they hadnāt got round to mending the floor. We didnāt feel we got much of an apology & certainly no offer of any kind of refund.|This grand dame of a hotel is living on its location and past glories. Some of the staff are trying really hard to give one a pleasant stay, but it needs serious investment if it is to survive as a hotel in the 21st century. My guess it will sadly go the way of itās neighbour, the Rock Towers, and be converted into apartments in the, not too distant, future. Which will be a great shame
