The owners were nice enough and helpful and it's a characteristic house with a beautiful garden, but apart from that it fell short of my (high) expectations. One of the worst breakfasts I've ever had in the UK with burnt bacon and do-it-yourself toast, lots of noise from visiting grandchildren in the evening (okay, just my luck but still...) and the room - which was an upgrade - felt a bit cramped, even for one person. The bed was fine though, and during the night it was deathly quiet and the countryside and location are lovely. Therefore three stars.

Such a warm and friendly welcome from out hosts Richard and Liz. From the outset they were very helpful with information of places of interest and recommendations of restaurants/pubs. Also part of the family was Lulu their friendly dog. |Enjoyable cooked breakfast with cereal, toast, fresh fruit and yoghurt also available.|Comfy bed and very quite area was ideal after a busy day. We were in the area on our genealogy search, and Well Cottage was the perfect location for us. We found local people were friendly and helpful in our quest. |We would definitely stay again if in the area.

Glad I found Richard and Liz's b&b as I needed a weekend of ME time. In the tranquility of the Kent countryside and a warm welcome from the owners of Well Cottage, I am pleased to say everything was 5 star. My double ensuite room was cozy and all facilities were excellent. As I was travelling solo I was pleased to have a fridge/microwave to have the use of to save me eating out. The gardens were amazing and if it wasn't for Richard mowing the grass, you could have heard a pin drop!! Just how I wanted it. ||I'm so looking forward to returning for a longer stay next time as so much to see and do in the local area.||

Very charming place to stay when you want to visit sussex and Kent. Liz and Richard are very kind and helpfull in making your trip to the best: cycling directions, hints for the best pubs, and even a special arrangement to see a EK football match

On making our booking we received a couple of texts from Richard to confirm, as well as some useful info re local pubs and eateries. We received a warm welcome from RIchard and Liz with a much needed pot of tea in their lovely garden. We spent a very pleasant couple of days/nights in their family home and felt very welcome. These lovely hosts went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and that we had everything we needed. Lovely clean rooms and my husband slept better than he does at home in his own bed! Nice breakfast cooked for us to order by Liz. Biggest bonus: our dog was most welcome and enjoyed some ball-chasing with Twiggy (who is absolutely gorgeous!).

Our hosts, Liz and Richard were absolutely charming and so accommodating. We initially just booked for 1 night but ended going back for another 2 nights! It was like going back home, so comfortable and what a stunning setting. A huge cooked breakfast greeted us each morning along with a friendly chat over a cuppa! Hawkhurst is a charming village with so many surrounding places to visit. The whole area is steeped in history and would loved to have stayed longer. Definitely would recommend staying there.

Well Cottage is nicely situated a little distance out from the big village/small town of Hawkhurst proper. The house itself is very well-designed to fit with this rural setting, as many of its windows and its beautiful sloping garden faces out onto the rolling green fields beyond. That will most likely be the scene you look out on as you eat a delicious and varied breakfast. ||||Richard and Liz are perfect hosts, keen to give you the local insights and information needed to make the most of your time in this fascinating area on the Kent/Sussex border. I travelled solo and when the hosts were preparing for their own trip away but they still made every effort to make me welcome and maximise my enjoyment of the area.||||The area itself is well worth a visit. There are a host of local historic sites and open gardens to visit, including the world famous Sissinghurst Castle and Great Dixter, within less than 30 minutes by car. There are also lots of lovely footpaths to take you through a picturesque and well-wooded countryside.
