Location and Setting

The park’s strategic location is one of its key assets. Perched on a peninsula overlooking the Carrick Roads, a vast tidal estuary, Hawkins Battery enjoys stunning views of the sea – although, as some guests have noted, these views are currently impacted by the growth of surrounding vegetation. The site itself is steeped in history, dating back to its origins as a Napoleonic artillery battery. This legacy is interwoven into the park’s design and atmosphere, offering visitors a glimpse into Cornwall’s rich past. Its proximity to the fishing port of Torpoint further enhances its appeal, providing easy access to local amenities and attractions. The area surrounding the park is characterized by picturesque coastal walks and a tranquil atmosphere, making it ideal for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Although not explicitly highlighted in all online descriptions, the park offers a variety of accommodation options, including static caravans and touring pitches. The park features well-maintained grounds, providing ample space for recreation and relaxation.

It’s important to note that detailed information regarding specific facilities – such as the availability of Wi-Fi, laundry services, or on-site entertainment – should be confirmed directly with the park via the website or telephone.

Historical Significance

Hawkins Battery’s historical roots are a significant draw for many visitors. The battery itself, constructed in the early 19th century, played a vital role in defending the coastline against potential invasion. Guest Feedback and Recent Developments

The Average opinion: 4.6/5 reflects a generally positive experience among visitors. However, recent feedback indicates a desire for improvements to the views from the pitches. As highlighted by some guests, overgrown trees and vegetation have partially obscured the sea views that are traditionally associated with the park’s location. The park owner has acknowledged this concern and is reportedly exploring options to restore the views, including landscaping and maintenance work. This dedication to addressing guest feedback demonstrates a commitment to providing a high-quality holiday experience.

Recommendations for Visitors

For prospective visitors, it’s recommended to:

  • Book accommodations in advance, particularly during peak season.
  • Contact the park directly to confirm the availability of specific facilities and amenities.
  • Be aware of potential view limitations due to the growth of surrounding vegetation and inquire about any ongoing restoration efforts.
  • Take advantage of the park’s location to explore the surrounding coastal area and local attractions.
  • Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring or autumn) for a quieter and more affordable experience.

Hawkins Battery Holiday Park offers a unique and rewarding holiday experience for those seeking a combination of coastal scenery, historical interest, and a traditional holiday park setting. While improvements are being made to enhance the views, the park’s rich history, friendly owner, and convenient location make it a worthwhile destination.

Sadly the sea view that all pitches are supposed to have has been taken over by overgrown trees, hedgerows and massive weeds, and I think only one pitch offers a glimpse of the sea. This is such a shame because the owner is very helpful and very pleasant. I hope he either corrects his adverts or sets to and gets some maintenance work done, restoring the views again. The history of the building and immediate area is interesting. I didnt use any of the facilities.

A great place to stay with an excellent quality/price ratio. The mobile home we stayed in (family of four) was cosy but still the right size to feel at ease during an unfortunate day of non-stop rain. Views over the sea are stunning and the owners are phenomenally helpful and kind. Picturesque Cawsand and Kingsand is just a five-minute drive away. Ample parking is also available.

Great campsite for Campervans and tents. Lovely welcoming, peaceful and relaxed place to be. A perfect spot for walks with dogs to the incredible beaches and villages below. Leave your vanities and hang ups behind and just enjoy the experience. You can’t go wrong camping here. Thanks Kevin for a great stay.

The pitches are great, they all have an incredible view of the sea. You can get down to the villages with a lovely walk down the public footpath. The toilets are well looked after.

Stayed in Bay View, a static caravan, for four nights. Wished that I booked a longer stay and even the dog didn't want to go home. The view from the private decking was amazing!

Kevin was so friendly.

Extremely clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. Wi fi was poor but it provided a detox from using social media etc.

Five minute drive to the villages of Kingsand, Cawsand and Millbrook. Kingsand has a car park. There's a Spar, a deli, souvenir shop and a bakery (sells pizzas in the evening). I recommend The Half Way House which is dog friendly. Millsbrook has a small car park (10p to park for an hour). There's an eco/organic produce shop called Widdicombe's; Premier, Co Op, pottery shop, a general store and a coffee shop that's dog friendly.

Ten minute drive to Rame Head. Rame Head's car park is £1 for a day.

Peaceful location. Would definitely return.

Perfect little site stayed 3 nights in October as visiting friends nearby in Saltash. We would have loved to stay longer!! Amazing views from the pitch and just 20min walk to kingsands. Lots of walks and coves to explore.
Basic facilities but nice and clean and has a very quirky feel which we loved. Kevin the host was lovely! It’s dog friendly and quiet. Would definitely return 🙂

We stayed here in May for 1 night. The campsites was very relaxed, good price and set in a quiet meadow Basic toilet facilities but clean . It was set in a former sea defence port which I enjoyed. We walked around the peninsula of Kingsand and Cawsand with it’s quaint cottages. We had a drink at the bay hotel overlooking Cawsand beach. Good location. Would return for another adventure.

Brilliant! What a great bloke Kevin is ! Our motorhome broke down 7 miles away from site after travelling 320 miles. Aa recovered us to site and Kevin towed us onto site with his old land rover. Really couldn't be more helpful. The site is spotless and very quiet. Highly recommended 👌
