Quiet simply the best pub in the area. Very friendly staff and great range of beers and ales. The food is absolutely fabulous and beautifully cooked and presented. Very interesting and varied menu, unlike other places which serve just ’pub grub’.
I have walked here about 4 times from Petersfield and every time I have not been disappointed. Real proper cheeseburgers with all the trimmings, some of the best fish and chips I have tried and an amazing ploughman’s lunch, served on a wooden platter. Service is quick and staff really chatty and friendly. I have made this a regular monthly walk just for the food alone.
Look forward to coming back next month.

This place is an absolute gem.
A genuine free house in a beautiful, rural, location. Warm welcomes from the staff. Charming rooms that are well appointed and cosy.
The food is incredible, and the menu beautifully balanced.
Eating here was a delight, all the more so because Lewis, the chef, was really happy to talk and share his knowledge.....what a lovely chap.
Delighted with our stay, we will be back.

Whilst on the Hangers Way 20 mile walk we stumbled across the most amazing and humble pub. The staff were so friendly and they couldn’t have been more welcoming from offering to fill our water bottles to taking our rubbish and even sorting us some chips even though the kitchen was closed for lunch. We will def be back and felt so relaxed and welcome in a beautiful country pub. Thank you

Had Valentine's Day lunch at The Hawkley and came away very disappointed. This was my favourite pub in Hampshire but has changed under its new owners. I appreciate that change happens and things move on, but this used to be a real country pub, always busy when we visited and with a good atmosphere. That no longer seems to be the case. We ate from the special Valentines Day menu, there was enough choice and we selected the Venison Wellington. Appreciating that it would take a little time to cook was not a problem but it was nearly 45 minutes before it came. The Wellington was very well cooked, but two slices of it, half a shallot and a slice of carrot did not really meet expectation or appetite. I should add that there was no mention of vegetables on the menu, perhaps we should have asked...or known better, there was also no sides available to order from the menu, hence our expectation that it came with veg'. We had ordered our deserts at the same time as our mains, but once again these took over twenty minutes to arrive. I did comment to our waitress about the meagre amount of veg, I hope they will be a little more generous if they take on board feedback. The desert was very good, so there is a good cook in the kitchen. Sadly my favourite pub seems to be coming a fine dining establishment, I hope its a successes but I will not be coming back.

Stopped for a lunch during our hike in the area.
The food was exceptional! Best lunch we had in a pub.
The chef itself was very lovely and you can see and feel he cares about the customers enjoying the food he makes.
Would love to come back and taste more dishes.
The pub itself is decorated in a warm feeling, caring about the small details

Stayed there for 2 nights whilst visiting friends. The place was buzzing when we arrived and we were made to feel very welcome. We ate there twice and the food was amazing, the chef spent time with us explaining how he created his menu. Well chosen wine list and good selection of ales. Tucked in the middle of nowhere, well worth the detour. Sat Nav. a good idea.

Fabulous food and service, spring had sprung so the location was perfect too. Highly recommend this beautiful village and the wonderful Hawkley Inn. Lived sitting outside in the sunshine with the grandkids. Can be very busy to recommend to book ahead

An EXCEPTIONAL Sunday roast!
The vegetarian nut roast was delicious and the children’s Sunday roast portion was perfect. Can’t wait to re-visit.
