My daughter and her fiancé was invited back for afternoon tea following a view of a potential Wedding venue. She emailed Hazelwood asking if both sets of parents could also attend and join in with the afternoon tea. The email was confirmed and we all arranged the day together to view the setting for their hopefully to be booked wedding venue, as they were both very impressed with Hazelwood. We were not expected as a booking of 6 on arrival, only 2. They placed us in a very dark room on a long coffee table as the main room was full. We got provided with tea and coffee, but had to ask 10 minutes later for milk and sugar. The vegetarian food arrived for 2 of our party, but had to wait almost 45 minutes for the rest of the parties food. We did get an apology but it was too little too late. Again we had to ask for more tea and coffee. Then knives were not provided for the scones and jam. After asking for these, we were left waiting again, so eventually we went looking for cutlery ourselves. Considering how much money we were going to spend on the wedding venue here, non of us were impressed. A simple afternoon tea that could not be catered for, really gave us a feeling that the wedding could be too much for them handle... and so after looking and viewing another castle, the booking has been made for elsewhere. Such a shame, but its defiantly worth looking around, we have now got just as nicer setting, more features added and at a much lower price.

We had a lovely one night spa break for my boyfriend's birthday. The spa staff were all lovely - we used the thermal spa and then both had massages which were great. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious - the staff gave us a nice touch of a birthday dessert. The only thing I would say is that the tables are very close together so when the restaurant is busy that can feel a little strange. Breakfast in the restaurant was also delicious - eggs were perfectly cooked! Our room was lovely, very clean, had everything we needed, would have preferred to have a bath over a shower, but that is personal preference. The only reason it is a 4* and not 5* is because when we arrived at 3pm which is the check in time, we were told our room wasn't ready, and there was no explanation or apology, we were just told to go and get a drink. I could have understood if we were early then it wouldn't be ready, but we were there at the correct time. I must say that the staff were all great and really helped make my boyfriend's birthday extra special, and we would definitely return.

I used Hazlewood Castle for my wedding in September and my husband and I had the best day! Some things however could be improved.||Positives:|-Wedding venue is lovely.|-Oliver (wedding coordinator absolutely made my wedding, he is brilliant at what he does and is an asset to the team).|-Communication via email to Melissa and meetings were all great.|-Bridal rooms night before and night of the wedding were lovely. |-Spa treatments the day before and afternoon tea were great.|-Golf cart to travel to the venue was a great addition.||Negatives:|-Reception staff seem to be inexperienced. Was told conflicting information about where I could store my wedding venue decorations. Carted boxes from the car to reception to be told I was not allowed to store my decorations, although had confirmation of this from the wedding coordinator. Communication between staff could have been better to save the extra stress. |-A box of my wedding venue decorations were misplaced and never found. Possibly review putting wedding decorations for multiple weddings all in the same room to avoid this. This was very sloppy and caused me additional stress on the morning of my wedding. - apology given for this and compensated with a complimentary stay.|-Wedding food could have been better considering the price - although aware the venue is not in the castle and had to be transported to the woodland area. Consider having a tasting of this as I would have paid more for a different menu if I had the opportunity to try it prior to the wedding.|-Not enough staff allocated at the wedding so the service was lacking. 1x person covering the bar for 74 wedding guests meant my guests were waiting up to an hour to be served a drink. Considering the price paid for the wedding this was unacceptable. Only 2x staff allocated to the bar for the evening with double to amount of guests, again this could have been better considering the venue are told the number of guests prior to the day.|-Wedding day guests only allowed to check in early at an additional cost. Nowhere for them to get changed.|-Double charged for things already paid for the morning after the wedding.

The castle was stunning, staff were enthusiastic and attentive if clearly somewhat inexperienced. The food was tasty and done to a high standard. Grounds were lovely and we enjoyed a nice walk in the idillic surroundings.||Our room in the castle was gorgeous and spacious. The bathroom was modern although the water pressure was a bit low. The only issue with our stay was our room was freezing. The radiator didn’t work and while the staff were apologetic nobody in the hotel could offer any solution or remedy.

Firstly, it's quiet, and in the middle of nowhere, but has very easy access to the A1.
The drive goes on for ages, to the point you're wondering if you're lost.
Nope, you're not, carry on, there will be signs.
It's VERY well kept. I wish I had their gardener.
The food was nice, service was fast.
It's extremely picturesque, and would make an excellent choice of a place for a wedding.
The building is VERY old.
Dogs are allowed in some of the rooms.
Yes some of the rooms have older decor, but the building is very old, and the rooms match the building I believe.

Definitely beautiful surroundings, easy walks close by.
Very romantic.

I would return.

We recently had our wedding at Hazlewood castle. This included the ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception.|From booking the venue through Emma 18 months ago to the actual ceremony all we can say is that the experience was excellent. We had numerous visits / calls to Emma to finalise arrangements. She was efficient and professional in every respect. |The day itself was faultless. Every aspect was covered by attentive staff and their excellent supervisor Chris. Chris never missed a beat. He made sure everything went smoothly and was a credit to Hazlewood castle. |Would definitely recommend Hazlewood as a wedding venue as all aspects were exceptional.|We had an amazing day

Pros: ||* the woodland venue is beautiful ?|* wedding day Co ordinator ( oliver ) and the night Co ordinator was friendly and professional. |* the food was wonderful. |* the golf cart service was very useful. |* bridal sweet was lovely||Cons : |* the staff on the front desk and in the resteraunt seemed inexperienced and not not confident in their roles. They had no mentor to guide them. Which affected their service. ||* I was told to check out of my room on the day of my wedding while i was getting ready , when my parents had paid for two nights.||* racked up the early checking in price by £50 on the day . My wedding started at 2pm and had families coming from quite a distance. And even when the cheeking in time came none of the rooms was ready.|||* making my guests get changed in the board room including my 83 year old grandmother. ||* all the staff seemed to be focused on the wedding that was happening the day after mine. Seemed completely unaware of my wedding that was happening that Thursday and had to keep reminding them.||* charged the bar tab to to wrong room which held us up from check out. Even though we told staff six times
