John and Pauline are a truly wonderful couple, immediately made us feel welcome and at home.|The accomodation was superb, the shower was great and the food was a real treat. I even got a lesson on how to poach the egg for a perfect eggs benedict!|They are centrally located along hadrians wall so great base for getting around but slso, there are several very good sites and museums in quite easy walking distance.|Loved the stay, loved the landscapes and loved the hosts company when indoors.|Would definately go again.

The warm welcome we received to this charming, intimate, B&B was exceptional. Pauline and John made us feel like we were special guests in their enchanting home. Our room, though somewhat small, was impeccable, and equipped with a hospitality tray, toiletries, and access to a refrigerator stocked with milk, water and chocolates. ||||But it is Pauline and John who give this B&B the 5 star rating - from the food (John is a retired professional chef), to the service, to travel advice, and even a mini-cooking demonstration. John's bountiful garden makes its way into his creative dinners, should you choose to dine in (we did so 3/4 nights and are still talking about the breakfasts and dinners). Pauline serves each meal with just the right amount of attentiveness and grace. ||||The location is wonderful for those who like to walk out the door and hike the English countryside. In fact, it is in walking distance (1.5 miles) to Vindolanda, a well-known Roman Fort.||||During our 4 day stay, we became friends with Pauline and John. Henshaw Barn B&B was the highlight of our trip to England, as wonderful as London was.

Pauline and John immediately made us feel welcome when we arrived for our two night stay. They really looked after us and we enjoyed a very comfortable stay. Johns cooking was exceptional making us food some of which had come from his own garden. The room we had was very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble if we needed anything. Pauline and John are a very warm friendly couple who go the extra mile to make your stay one that will be remembered for a long time. There was a motto at the foot of their stairs which read ‘arrive as guests but leave as friends’. Every word true as this was how we were made to feel. We would certainly be visiting again.

Pauline and John don't do 'nice'! They are truly wonderful hosts who are sincerely interested in the comfort and pleasure of their guests; it shows in everything that they do, from Pauline's careful preparation of bedroom and bathroom, to the exquisite and generous meals provided by John. Thank you Pauline and John for a wonderful 2 nights stay in your lovely home. On arrival we were treated to homemade scones and a very friendly welcome. Our accomadation was a beautidully appointed bedroom and large bathroom, together with a shared sitting room. John served us some fabulour meals which included fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs from his allotment. Henshaw Barn is set in a tranquil village in the Northumberland countryside. They were both perfect hosts and most certainly made us feel at home. We look forward to visiting again when we are in the area.

We really struck lucky finding this small and personal bed and breakfast only a short distance from Hadrian’s Wall and Vindolanda. Pauline and John and their two lovely rescue dogs gave us the warmest of welcomes, complete with tea and scones. Our room was beautifully appointed by Pauline with everything one could possibly wish for. We have stayed in many a B & B over the years, and I can’t remember ever seeing so many thoughtful touches before. The use of a small living room, complete with tv and fridge and oodles of reading material and tourist information is also a huge benefit. It was lovely to chill there with a pre dinner drink. John is in charge of culinary arrangements and his experience as a head chef is very much to the fore. The breakfast menu is varied and modern. Evening meals can be provided with some advance notice and we were more than happy to indulge in John’s skilfully prepared meals! The food is delicious so don’t expect to go home without a couple of extra pounds around the midriff! Pauline and John also gave us many tips regarding places to visit - we packed a lot of Roman stuff into two days but there are also endless walking possibilities in this beautiful part of the world. Indeed, one can access the footpath network from the door. Despite its close proximity to a busy A road the B & B is tucked away and is very quiet with no through traffic to intrude on it’s privacy. If you are planning a Northumberland trip do yourselves a favour and stay in the Henshaw Barn Bed and Breakfast.

I can't speak highly enough of this little place. After a long, hot day hiking across moorland, it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy some home comforts. Pauline and John are lovely hosts and made us all feel completely welcome, even offering us some tea and homemade scones on our arrival.|The rooms are beautifully presented with all the amenities you could want. But the best thing of all was the food - John was a top chef in a former life and certainly hasn't lost his touch. The evening meal would not have looked out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant and tasted out of this world. And the breakfast was also amazing and filling - just what we needed before embarking on more of our cross-country hike.|John happily collected us in the evening and dropped us off in the morning to save us having to walk back to the trail which was extremely kind of him.|I certainly hope to back there again in future. Definitely one to remember.

A quiet, out of the way location, beautiful house, comfortable room and superb food, all enhanced by the warm, friendly welcome by lovely, generous hosts. We highly recommend Henshaw Barn and would ourselves gladly go back again to stay longer
