Lovely pub located in the heart of Malpas village. Serene atmosphere, in tune with nature and excellent view of the river below.

Staff are very friendly and the ambience of the interior is really great. There are outdoor sitting arrangements if you fancy sitting out.

It is a great place to hang out and chill without the noise of a city or town distracting you.

The food was delicious and the staff were fantastic. The Heron was recommended as a place with great seafood and it did not disappoint. I'm looking forward to returning and trying more of the menu.

Fantastic vegan 'fish' and chips, one of the best I have had. It is a lovely setting, if the weather is good, sitting outside and staring down the river can while away the time. Parking can be difficult as the road is quite narrow but well worth the effort.

Lovely bar lad and a good atmosphere ,we turned up here dead on 12 noon just as they started service, but my god the food is a no go , old manky stale salad about 4 days old turned up on our plate shrivelled up cucumber and non enable tomatoes the cheesy chips with no cheese on only a small skimping so tight on the portions , it seems this place really is cutting corners and serving not edible food / food from left over days before , we are local and won’t be back again,

The lad behind the bar did a call back on all the outside tables apart from us , which doesn’t make sense ,so we didn’t get a chance to express our comments on the food , We were on Table 51 , and I wasn’t going to make a fuss by coming to the bar we just left .

Such a Shame the pub is so lovely inside and out .

Lovely part of the country... I left Truro and got more and more impressed with the view and scenery... Arrived at the Heron and mightily impressed .. easily pay £12 for a full English in my town for a indistinguishable plate of food but here was good to great food. Very impressed gorgeous location will be back.
Edit: I did return and went early again same as before the time we waited a long time for food which came out cold my poached eggs were cold which for me makes them not edible. I did raise the issue, the bar staff offered to cook another but we had things to do and had already dedicated enough time to the breakfast part of my day. It was disappointing but all else remains lovely location, good produce. I will go again this time will ask upfront for heat and allow more time.

A very disappointing lunch today on an outside balcony table. We both ordered a roast..they bought them out pretty quickly..not a good thing maybe. Then we waited 10 minute for vegetables to arrive. Our roasts were then cold we politely asked them to bring us new meals with veg at the same time which they did, however the waitress was very stroppy and rude and decided to attack us for not putting the dog on the lead..he was asleep under the table at the time. Although the meal was then warm enough..the plates were stone cold.
A very unsatisfactory experience, very poor service from the staff..no sign of a manager..who should have come out and apologised right away.
Location beautiful but cannot recommend the meal or the service.
