Brought our friends here for a superb lunch before having a walk on Tennyson Down. Such friendly staff and all our lunches were high quality and well presented. There was enthusiastic talk of booking rooms for next summer's annual gathering too.
Toilets are a little primitive but clean nevertheless.

This was my 3rd visit and it won't be my last. Outstanding location, food and service. Really friendly staff and the best fish I have ever eaten (whole Sea Bream). Lovely beer garden, good selection of beers, plenty of parking and an awesome location for exploring this neck of the island. There are other hotels with swankier rooms, more mod cons (and higher prices!), but if you want to stay somewhere with character, atmosphere and history, book a room now!

Lovely pub with great character - and local characters! Had a great meal (pan fried sole for me), faithfully cooked - and served. Excellent choice of real ales, much enjoyed.

Visited for lunch, a beautiful walk from Colwell Bay and had heard good things about the Highdown. The menu's and food were superb. Great vegetarian choices too. We had the Goan Fish Curry which was fabulous, and the Vegetarian Roast with all the trimmings. Absolutely couldn't beat it. One of the best meals we've had for a long time. The staff were really friendly, and service was excellent. Will definitely put this on our list of local 'go to' venues. So many menu choices there is something for everyone - and lots to encourage us to go back and try. Thank you!

Stayed here for one night before the Ultra hike. Relatively peaceful location. No chance to sample the food sadly due to another function. I also left before breakfast.
Nice view from my window of the adjacent farms and fields.
Relatively short drive away from Totland. A good place to watch the sunset.

The location was great and the staff were lovely. The twin we had was well put together with everything you needed and the beds were comfy. However both radiators were blasting out heat and we couldn't control them. We had to have both windows open to make sure we could sleep. The breakfast had the potential to be lovely but the plate mine was served on looked visibly dusty and dirty. The general feel of the place was tired and not the cleanest.

We had dinner and breakfast here, while staying at the campsite across the road (the breakfast has to be booked in advance).
Food is great & staff are friendly.
Behind the pub, there's a large garden where you can sit & eat.

Lovely pub with a beautiful outdoor area, drinks were quite pricy (£12 for a pint of cider and a bottle of cider) - but worth the price given the area. The two gents working were fantastic
