Overall very acceptable but with one exception - housekeeping! Never before have I seen a room “cleaned” in under two (2) minutes. Bedspread thrown up, pillows not fluffed, no cleaning
anywhere, not even a wipe down. Even an empty tissue box, lying out - clearly visible ignored. All other areas no problem & staff (other than above) very pleasant.

Stayed here to attend a function, locally. Staff were brilliant (reception & Will on the bar), room and public areas clean and well presented. Small issue room, and request for further coffee for room facility, all sorted whilst we were out. Breakfast was good, although some food on hotplate not kept at high temp. Would definitely stay here again, probably next year!

The room was clean and comfortable with a good sized TV. The breakfast was hot and tasty. Just be careful not to time your arrival for when the football finishes like we did, as it’s very difficult to get to the hotel against the flow of all the people coming out of the stadium! Our mistake.

We came to Sunderland as a base for visiting Beamish, this was a return visit
The free parking closeby is extremely helpful
The reception is attractive and bright.
All the staff- reception,bar, restaurant, housekeeping etc were brilliant. Friendly, professional, helpful and a credit to the hotel. Nothing was a trouble.
We breakfasted at the hotel, a good range of hot and cold foods, continental and English breakfast style.
USB sockets and lots of different lighting fixtures in the room.
Handy little shop with snacks and drinks - crisps, chocolate etc
The room was a reasonable size, good desk and office chair. Bright bathroom with attractive fittings and all clean
Personally I found the bed a bit too firm and the pillows too soft.
Its a busy, popular hotel and there are a few little areas of wear.
A brighter desk lamp would have been useful

Stayed the night before the Sunderland v Stoke City game. Everything about the hotel was excellent, from checking in to departure. The rooms were excellent, and the breakfast just perfect. All the staff we met were friendly. The only downside the result. Would highly recommend staying, good value too, with free parking.

Returning to Sunderland and never considered staying anywhere else. Stayed here a number of times now and it never fails to deliver. The usual warm, smiling welcome on arrival and this continued from all staff during our stay. Nice comfortable warm room, with complimentary toiletries. |Only had breakfast and a few drinks during our visit, but all well up to scratch.|Will certainly return and highly recommended to all.

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times for business trips, and it’s always a great experience. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making each visit smooth and stress-free. It’s also very easy to find, which is a huge plus. A special mention to Lucy at the bar—her service is exceptional. Highly recommended!

Parking was a walk across busy road. Room small for the price no complimentary bottles of water. The staff could not be bothered with a large group coming back from an awards night and shut the bar. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The restaurant seat where ripped and again staff very miserable. 2star at best would never stay again and should not be associated with the Hylton name.
