One of the worst hotels I have stayed in, and definitely the worst ā€˜Big Brand’ hotel.

There as a door stop in the middle of the floor in front of the wardrobe area. I kicked this while retrieving clothes and broke my toe.

The bathroom had a heated towel rack that was rusty. The shower hose was a metal coil type that was rusty and split so it would have been easy to cut oneself on it if not careful.

There was mold on the bathroom mirror and some in the shower cubicle.

There were dead flies in the ceiling light fittings.

A colleague had to insist on a different room because it smelt of cigarette smoke despite being a non-smoking room.

Lastly, colleagues who were staying an additional night as they were flying back to the States and Slovakia the following morning, were emailed in the afternoon that the hotel was closing, that their reservations had been cancelled, and to collect their luggage and vacate their rooms immediately. The reception staff did their best to provide information and stay friendly, despite having no more information than us. IHG had no mangement representative present to assist and no help was provided in booking alternative accommodation.

Terribel hotel and absoluely disgusting customer service from IHG.

I will not be staying in another Holiday Inn if I have an alternative available and will advise colleague to avoid also.

How nice to be welcomed by efficient smiling desk staff. Nothing was any trouble, and a minor glitch with the door not locking properly was fixed immediately. Bright lighting, good connectivity to wi-fi and several easily accesible power points, lots of hot water and a good shower. Easy parking a bonus. |The chef and kitchen staff also went out of their way to please.|In all a very pleasant stay. Good value for money.|The ground floor bar is open but not the one on the 12th floor.|Thank you all.||Note to management… The 12 floor bar being closed should be mentioned on the website as is the gym.

We stayed here as part of a massive drive from North to South for a wedding to split up the journey and knew it was close to the M6 motorway for ease of access.
Upon arrival, the ground floor is modern, quiet. The car parking is plentiful but on a business day in business hours as its in an retail park, I can imagine it gets busy.
There is 1 lift that services the 12 floors. We were on floor 5. The room was a corner room that was decent enough but felt like it needed a revamp, there was clear damage on walls and on cupboards from over use and the bathroom had rust, mould and dirt including a half eaten cracker on the floor. We didn't shower as the shower head was caked in mildew and build up lime scale.
The bed was extremely uncomfortable. There was a dip in the middle so myself and my husband felt like we'd roll into each other in the night and you could feel the springs in the mattress. The doors to all the bedrooms were not soft close and slamming happened throughout the night. We could hear the train line outside the room and the road. Our curtains weren't fitted to the corner window properly so didn't close which then meant light got in from cars driving past.
The staff throughout our stay weren't great, on arrival we didn't get a smile and they seemed to not want to talk to us. At breakfast, we felt the same thing from the staff serving breakfast. The breakfast was nice and we enjoyed this hence more than 1 star. I would try and find somewhere else to stay next time I needed to do this long journey. Definitely not value for money.

Most guests probably know the recent history of this hotel. I needed one night at short notice in Cannock so thought I’d give it a go first the first time.

Arrived after 10pm and allocated room had the air conditioning blowing cold air despite thermostat being set at 28 degrees. Reception tried to reset from the front desk and was told give it 10 minutes. Nothing changed as was told hotel was full and that they could provide a heater…. Luckily they then did find a room which I was given by which time it was nearing 11.00pm. I suspect they know which rooms are not functioning to the levels required but still go ahead and allocate them anyway. New room was warmer but decor and general facilities weren’t great (didn’t even have plug for the wash basin and water pressure in shower was weak).

Couldn’t fault the staff and thief support but feels like the whole hotel needed a complete overhaul of all amenities and rooms before it should have reopened.

Room 502 given was not pleasant, threadbare carpet in sections, felt like room needed a good clean & revamp

Breakfast was cold first morning, asked if they had a microwave to warm it up, told they are not allowed to do that.

2nd morning I went down to breakfast earlier to opening time, & to be fair it was warmer...............

asked reception for another room as I had booked for two nights, was told that they may be able to move me to a revamped room for the following nights stay - room they moved me to 1002 was a "slight" improvement - but certainly not revamped.

Overall not a pleasant experience of a hotel stay.

Following evening I stayed at another hotel, even though it added an hour each way to my commute much nicer experience Chalk & Cheese comparison.

This was not up to standard.

I was initially given a room that hadn’t been cleaned, moved to a different room that was tired at best!

The guest areas were dirty, walls stained with god knows what and lots of damaged doors to cupboards in and around the lifts and stairwells.

The restaurant was cold with temporary heaters pointing at the staff and not the guests.

Poor nights sleep due to the lack of sort close doors, so lots of slamming doors through the night.

Breakfast wasn’t any better with broken coffee machines and luke warm water for granulated coffee.

I shall never stay at this hotel again.

I have been a HI member for several years and use the chain due to an accepted level of experience. Not in this case.

Details of events -
Arrived just prior to 14:00 to check in and was told the room might not have been ready however the chap on reception would check with housekeeping. After around 5 / 10 minutes he hadn't had a reply (on WhatsApp) and gave us the room key to leave our bags. Upon arrival at room 404, the key did not work so my wife stayed next to the room while I went back to reception to sort the key. Whilst the other waiting parties checked in, I received a call from my wife to say that the cleaner had let her into the room which was not clean and was told that it was our responsibility to sort this out with the man on reception and that she was finishing her shift in minutes so didn't have time. I relayed this to the chap on reception and he came back to sort the key and check the state of the room.

Upon checking room 402 was ready and we were moved to their however could not obtain a key until later when we were leaving for the afternoon. At this point, we did not check the room due to having no key card to activate the electric. When arrived later that evening we noted that the aircon was constantly on however due to the lateness of the evening, we thought this would just turn off when it got to temperature. After a couple of hours, I was woken to an immensely loud fan noise that didn't turn off even with the controls on the wall. After a couple more hours of sleep, I was woken up again by the cleaning team slamming the staff exit next to the room serval times. All in all, I had a terrible sleep and a lot of issues that shouldn't even have been present from the point that we checked in to the end of our stay.

When checking out, the same guy took the key off me and didn't even ask how our stay was even though he knew of the issues we had upon check in.

I feel all round that the service and stay that we received was far from acceptable and I would like a full refund for our stay 19/10/2024.

The impressive building (for me) belies the truth within. It’s actually quite small with no real bar and restaurant area, just a few tables and chairs and nothing that allows you to relax in comfort. The bar set-up is very Holiday Inn Express. All that aside it was 8:30pm when I arrived, tired and hungry. What time does the restaurant close please, I asked at reception. 9pm came the reply but can you order by 8:50 pm please. Ok, twenty minutes - no time for a shower as hunger came first! Duly in the bar at 8:40, where I made my order and the bar tender and another member of staff started a chat behind a pillar. That’s fine - as I sipped my beer. He returned. Kitchen is closed I’m afraid. My fuse almost blew and I reminded him what I was told at reception. Oh, I do apologise - shift handover and messages got confused? The chef (!!) appeared and stated that he had started packing everything away and offered me a pizza (very Holiday Inn Express). Fuse now blown - I declined and went off to order food via a well-known delivery app. Upon checkout I asked for the manager. What time does the restaurant close on a Sunday evening please? 9pm came the reply. Sort it out please - it’s not acceptable.
