I can’t comment on the hotel itself as I didn’t stay there. But we booked a small meeting room to celebrate my Dad’s 90th birthday along with a small number of family and friends. We had a sit down meal which was excellent quality, served by friendly cheerful staff. Elaine the manager and her team couldn’t do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble and I think they enjoyed the occasion as much as we did. Thank you for helping make our celebrations truly memorable. We highly recommend the Holiday Inn, Eight Ash Green, Colchester.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at the Holiday Inn Colchester - the staff were totally superb with Elaine in the Dining Room so outstandingly helpful to a couple of old dodgers! So many thanks to you all. The rooms were clean, warm and comfortable and the swimming in good order.

I have visited this Holiday Inn many times over the past years to visit family but not recently and I was concerned how the hotel would be after an period of not visiting but I should not have worried - the entrance is still as welcoming as it used to be and I felt at home||The staff have to be what makes this hotel - the lady, Sarah , at check in was so helpful and understanding and also related very well to my grandson - and then all the other staff could not have been more helpful - on our last morning the restaurant manager treated my grandson as the "head of the party" and he loved this .||The hotel has child related toys and books at the reception area and the swimming pool was an added bonus - on our day of arrival there were swimming lessons and we were advised the area of pool we could use would be less than at other times but this was not an issue |The breakfast offered at this hotel has always been the one I used to "measure other hotels I visit against " and it is still brilliant - 9/10 is the score I would give it - why not 10/10 ? the usual issues of making cups of tea which are not made with boiling water||Our family room was very comfortable but maybe could have benefitted from r an update but a lovely touch which I was impressed with was that biscuits were provided on the coffee tray ||The hotel does not offer a lift and for us this was not an issue - I asked for and received immediately assistance to take our cases to our room but if you have mobility issues I would request a room on the ground floor||The one thing I have to bring to your attention - and if you live in a busy town and are used to trains and lorries and cars passing your room this will not be an issue - and this is one I had forgotten - the proximity of the hotel to a main line rail track - I have to say I didn't have a night were I was not aware of the trains during the night - how many freight trains are needed in the Norfolk/Suffolk area - with prior knowledge I would suggest guests consider bringing ear plugs with them or even could reception sell them?||would I return to this hotel - 100 % yes

The room was clean and fantastic.||The staff did a good job. The bed was nice and soft and the pillows where wonderful. I recommend this hotle too anyone family's and if your just flying solo like me and children and couples it's perfect for anyone visiting.

Really nice overnight stay.

The food in the restaurant for dinner was much better than you would expect.

The breakfast buffet was very well done.

The swimming pool, gym and associated amenities were all very good too.

Stayed Thursday 25th, was phoned day before about our booking as we had asked for family room twin on ground floor, was advised that they don’t have family room on ground floor(we needed ground due to family member with restricted mobility), after a few phone calls back and forward it was agreed at no extra cost to provide a assessable room on ground floor for that member if family and family room upstairs nearby for me and my son. As the reception said that central reservation dept didn’t know what rooms the hotel have got, the reception manager did say they had the problem before with family rooms not being downstairs due to buggy’s etc and no lift, I suggested that maybe they need to change rooms on ground floor to stop this problem. Also they only have three assessable rooms and only 3 blue badge spaces, which isn’t enough for hotel this sizes, as more people have badges than assessable rooms.|Other problems were loud and fighting and bad language guests in corridor about 12.30 am, near room 134 by the stairs. Then in other room about 1.30am someone decided to bang on doors upstairs walking people up, was reported to main desk just after and wa advise some guest had just left the bar! They did nothing to stop or find out whom! This was and the earlier incident report next morning at check out. Breakfast was average, but a lot of choices. Swimming pool was ok, but spa bath not working.

Extremely disappointing service. Only one cook to serve all guests. I had to drive to near by supermarket to buy food as I was told my order will take over 60mins

Took a small break and the hotel delivered exactly as promised ,my kids loved their fabulous morning breakfast , we celebrated our daughters birthday and she loved it , the hotel is very close to Colchester zoo and the locals are very friendly .
