I have already written a review but it hasn't appeared. We found this a good location at a reasonable rate for a brief break in the area. Situated off a busy road we were worried about noise but thankfully heard little traffic from our room. Staff were welcoming and informative and our room was clean and had all we needed thank you. There were areas of the hotel which were in need of maintenance but generally ok. Breakfast was not great. Ingredients were cheap quality and we gave up with the coffee machine as the drinks were tasteless. There was a noisy, loud family coughing and grabbing food in the dining room. We saw they were observed closely by staff and suspect they were being put up there. Their behaviour was off putting and a hotel is not the place for such families. I am not sure we would stay here again but the area is lovely.

Lovely big room with a sofa. I was on the ground floor and was allocated an accessible room so the bathroom was a wet room. Everything was in order, plenty of towels, tea & coffee, etc. The housekeeping is excellent but it must be said, the carpet cleaners need to come out. The bed was a double, lovely pillows and bedding. For me, the bed was a little soft but that's just a personal opinion. I'd stay again.

We stayed here over the weekend for a family event. Initially I was impressed upon arrival, we were greeted by the receptionist and quickly checked in and given directions to our room. The room was really nice and clean and quite big. The bed however was very soft and I didn't sleep well at all. I was with my wife and if either of us moved in bed then the other one could feel it as it was like sleeping on a water bed. ||On the second night we decided to have some food in the restaurant however we were told the chef wasn't in so one of the junior members of staff would try their best. Two of our friends ordered super salad but most of the ingredients were missing so we had to send them back and get another and most of the other meals were cold, in the bar area there wasn't much selection as the draft beers wernt on and they seemed to be running low on stock. ||Breakfast was ok, the food was nice but the drinks especially the orange juice and coffee wernt very nice at all, we ended up going into Dedham to get some nice coffee.||Last thing I noticed was one of the members of staff was working on the Friday night when we arrived back around 7 and we went to bed around midnight he was working, we when came for breakfast he was either still working or back at work. Surely if he was working late at night he shouldn't have been in at 8 the next morning.||Probably wouldn't stay here again to be honest.

We held our baby shower here and was absolutely fantastic!!!! The manager Kate couldn't do enough to help and facilitate us throughout the event.|We provided our own food but again they help set up the tables and get the room ready. The room was light and airy and absolutely spotless to boot!|The reception staff were very helpful and the bar was always manned which was great as noone missed out on anything, plus the prices were very good.|I'm looking forward to staying over here soon on our little babymoon 🙂

We booked this hotel as a one night stop on a weeks trip around the UK.|We checked in with Charlie on reception.|We were disappointed with the terrifyingly loud air con, broken bedside lamp and seemingly broken tv. And the fact that the council had filled up the hotel with people who had no other accommodation. |Charlie was an absolute angel and sorted the tv out, she couldn’t fix the terrifying air con but brought me an extra duvet. I have two long term chronic health conditions and to be cold and uncomfortable is a big no.|We didn’t eat in the restaurant but got a take away and Charlie, who was running the bar and taking out meals in the restaurant, again was a total star and provided us with plates, cutlery and condiments for us to take to our room.|We have to say, we both slept very well considering our expectations were pretty low at this point. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were fab. |The rating would be higher if we had been forewarned that the hotel would be full of council house clientele. We had travelled a long way and paid £120 to stay there and whilst we didn’t have any issues with people, the man drinking white lightening at 5pm outside, and again the following morning at 8am, made us feel that it was possible we would. |In our opinion, Holiday Inn Express should have stated they were housing people in advance of our booking so we could have made a decision about our accommodation on our much needed break. After all, we booked a hotel stay and not a homeless shelter stay for £120.|Overall, Charlie saved our trip and the review of the hotel. She is so hardworking and went above our expectations to help us, she deserves recognition for this, thank you Charlie!

All of the staff at this hotel are simply incredible!!! ||Kate, the manager- was attentive, kind and caring towards my two children and they grew very fond of her during our stay? ||Lucie and Charley (sorry if i’ve spelt it wrong!) were also absolutely incredible and loved talking to my daughter about all her halloween things!!?||These people made what was going to be a stressful/upsetting time, so much more enjoyable and relaxed. I cannot thank you all enough ?

Just off A12 to the side of the Shell service station on south bound carriage way, you will find free parking slots, but mainly full of vans in the week. Check in was good, the open window in the room didn’t disguise the fact the room had been smoked in. Fairly standard room with no bath, but the bed was softish and narrow for comparable hotels. The breakfast was the standard, but the staff topped up food regularly and cleaned up tables as people left. Due to its location the room rate was reasonable, being 10-15 minutes from the Colchester park and ride.
