My son and I had a lovely, relaxing stay. We shared a twin room which was clean and comfortable. Reception staff, I'm unable to remember the lady who checked us in, was very friendly and informative, making everything clear. The twin beds were really comfortable and we both slept well with the aid of the black-out curtains. Breakfast, as always at the Express Hotels, was great. Fresh, plentiful and hot. We have stayed at this hotel before and enjoyed it then hence no hesitation in returning.

A prompt welcome by Joby at reception who told us the breakfast times and how to find our room. Comfy and clean room. More plug sockets would be useful though. Breakfast was plentiful and the food was good. In a good location opposite a bus stop where we could get a bus into the city easily.

Matt on Reception was very welcoming and efficient. We were upgraded and our room was large, well equipped and with a huge comfortable bed. ||A good breakfast buffet with something to suit most people. Although we went down at 9am on a Sunday there was no queue fur a table or for good. ||All the staff we encountered were cheerful and friendly. ||Overall excellent value for money and much much better than local Travelodge and Premier Inns for similar or higher cost and with no breakfast. ||Definitely our new “go to” hotel on our regular trips between London and Cornwall.

Booked with Expedia and there was no mention on my booking confirmation that you had to pay £6 to park. |The sofabed and pillows were dirty in our room (stains/hairs). |The mattress and pillows were uncomfortable.|The wall/bedhead creaked making it difficult to get to sleep. |Staff at breakfast were not there to greet you and inattentive to guests.|Options were basic with poor quality coffee, especially the mocha latte.|The receptionist lady was kind and helpful, but the actual hotel itself was sub-standard. Would definitely avoid for next time.

We stayed here on A Saturday night as was working in the area. The staff at reception were very helpful but I give this 3 out of 5 as I thought the breakfast was poor and there was a £6 charge for car parking. I had stayed at a Premiere inn the night before and overall this rated better for me in terms of my stay. I always thought Holiday inn Express was a slight step up from Premier Inn but now realise this is not the case.

Good:
- Location great
- price low
- staff extremely friendly.
Bad:
- Air con - advertised as amenity, but was turned off in our room. We were travelling with a small infant and it was 30c+. Weedy fan provided didn’t help much. Were advised it would be turned on while we were out the next day but it wasn’t, had to change rooms which was a hassle.
- Only 2 plug sockets in the entire room, used by the fan and the kettle. Neither anywhere near the bed
- Car park packed during the evening (shared with nearby steakhouse)
- Fruit at breakfast warm and starting to go off (soft apples, brown bananas etc)
- Shower leaky and wouldn’t stay consistent temperature - boiling or freezing.

Stayed here as a cheap stay using tesco clubcard vouchers via hotels.com||I read in advance that the car park for the hotel was £6 for 24 hours. This is absolutely unnecessary. And had i not had a stay using tesco vouchers i would not pick a hotel with paid parking. A real pet hate and unnecessary. ||Moving on - easy friendly check in. Lobby and stairwells clean and fresh. Hotel room was clean. As with any hotel ‘enclosed’ bathroom no ventilation and smells damp from the shower. Terrible water pressure and showers take twice as long because of pressure. Liked the Dove products for washing though. ||Mattress was very lumpy. Must be old and well used but daughter appreciated her pull out bed as it was a double. ||I like there is a bar downstairs at reasonable price. Also offer in house meals which we did not try. ||The breakfast was appalling. Cereal and toast fine - and soft rolls to make yourself a bacon or sausage bap. But if yiu are expecting a decent cooked breakfast you won’t get it. Only egg option was microwaved eggs. ||Overall an ok place to stay. If i had to pay full price i would not stay due to paying for parking and the mediocre breakfast.

We needed an overnight stop on a long journey and this hotel was perfect. Friendly staff, plenty of parking, bar food until 21:00 and breakfast included. Ticks all the boxes and now added to my favourites for future use
