We booked this B & B on recommendation of another owner. Richard and Annabel rent out a separate cottage, either as two single apartments or one house. We stayed downstairs and it was spotlessly clean, ample space and facilities and the garden and views were wonderful. Totally secluded and peaceful. Breakfast was fab, taken in the main house with the other guests upstairs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, we had the privacy of a separate apartment but Richard and Annabel ensured we were given clean towels, a yummy plate of scones appeared on day two and fresh bottles of water by our bedside. Thank you.

We stayed last weekend and left totally rested. Annabel and Richard are delightful hosts - nothing too much effort. The upstairs apartment is spacious, spotlessly clean and has lovely views. Super king size bed has a wonderfully comfortable mattress and crisp white linen. All top quality - superb value at the price. Homemade scones and clotted cream on arrival were a nice surprise.||Breakfast was cooked individually for us in their own kitchen. Freshly-squeezed orange juice, great coffee and delicious bacon, sausage etc. - sets the standard for cooked breakfast - and we really enjoyed chatting to our hosts - you won't meet nicer people.

We have just spent an excellent weekend in one of Annabel and Richard's two apartments on a quiet country lane about 5 miles from Sherborne. The apartment was extremely clean and comfortable with a cosy sitting room and a glorious bedroom looking out onto rolling countryside. Annabel and Richard could not have been more discretely welcoming and we enjoyed two excellent breakfasts enhanced by lively conversation.||Holt Cottage is also an excellent base for exploring beautiful Sherborne and enjoying the lovely Dorset countryside.

My husband, daughter and I were warmly greeted by Annabel and Richard to the attractive separate cottage. Our daughter had the down-stairs suite - huge bed in pretty room, separate bathroom with shower over, and small sitting room with tv etc. We were upstairs in a lovely suite with ensuite shower room and large sitting room with stunning views. A fidge is supplied in both suites with fresh milk and a vast array of teas/coffee to choose from plus luxury chocolates - very naughty! Good quality towels and masses of indulgent bubbles for bath.showers etc.||||Annabel had kindly agreed to make us supper on the Friday evening as we were on a tight schedule. It was an excellent meal served in the kitchen of their lovely house across the way. We enjoyed two excellent breakfasts with eggs from their own hens - deep yellow yolks!||||The peace and quite of this beautiful area of Dorset was very welcome for us and we will be returning soon - I hope!

My sister and I stayed in Holt Cottage for a weekend as a friend was getting married. It was a lovely place with amazing scenery and lots of friendly sheep. Lovely breakfast and lovely couple - very kindly leant me an ironing board one morning to save me from creases. They were also very kind about my hideous hangover and slightly late checking out!||Would definitely recommend - though be warned of one thing, taxi's in Sherbourne are hideously expensive! 😉

When our daughter got married in May this year we needed somewhere to stay that was close by, quiet with space. We run our own business so we would need internet access as my husband was bound to work, just before, during and after the wedding!!! As with many families nowadays, ours is manically busy with changes to plans occurring every minute so where we stayed had to be incredibly flexible and understanding. We both come from large families, have 5 'grown-up' children, grandchildren all of which could ascend on us at any-time!! So you may ask how Annabel and Richard reacted to this chaos in their beautifully peaceful retreat just outside Alweston in Dorset.||When our daughter phoned to say she had got delayed but it was fine she would meet us in Salisbury. Her cousin was picking her up in but could he stay the night? Of course, not a problem. My lovely brother-in-law 'popped in' for breakfast, with his children for breakfast on his way home, with the usual Hopkinson grin & you don't mind do you tacked on the end!!! Copious amounts of food was produced for everyone. For us it was a magical time. I have wonderful memories of my niece piling huge amounts of butter on her bread and then announcing that she'd like to wash her hands as they were greasy! This was after very seriously telling me that her hands (that she obviously been making mud pies with) did not need washing before eating breakfast!! Anyway I digress....||||Holt Cottage for us as a family renting both apartments was absolutely superb. They are well appointed each with their own supply of coffee, a delightful selection of teas and yes real milk! The breakfast is fabulous, fresh fruit and cereals followed by perfectly cooked eggs (freshly laid by their own hens) of your choice which the usual compliments. Richard spoils you with freshly squeezed orange juice which is followed by copious of coffee or tea. They are perfect hosts, kind, generous and extremely caring.||||You may ask, did they have you back again? Yes :-)||||We have have just had a wonderful weekend, just my husband and I this time...Oh and Poppy came too!!!

I can concur with many of the comments made about this upmarket B&B; can thoroughly recommend it. We were travelling as two couples so the two suites were ideal; we were able to sit in comfort and privacy in the upstairs room’s sitting area. Touches I liked were real milk for the tea and coffee in a useful fridge and a basket of cleansers, moisturisers and cotton wool in the bathroom. Alas we were not treated to scones and cream. There is generous off road parking, which was important to us.||||The cooked breakfast was indeed delicious and left you wanting more. No freshly squeezed orange juice or choice of cereal – but perhaps we should have asked. There was however, a large fresh fruit salad and yoghurt to go nicely with the muesli.||||One niggle – and a hint for new guests – there is no signage at all at Holt Cottage and the photo on their website is the view from the field not the road. I can understand there being no B&B sign but having “Holt Cottage” on the gate would have taken away some unnecessary anxiety at the end of a long journey and saved us disturbing their neighbour.
