The kitchen had a fridge, hob, oven, microwave, fridge and sink. The bed was comfortable and the shower / bathroom was generally fine. The hotel was quiet and it had a gym for which a Β£5 day pass could be purchased. It was very convenient for the Causey Inn wedding venue. ||There was no WiFi because the hotel had exceed its data allowance. Also mobile phone reception was poor. The TV in the bedroom didn't work as the aerial port on the TV was broken so the aerial had been disconnected. However, there was a working TV in the kitchen / lounge area. The oven had no baking trays and the shelves weren't clean. The room was in need of TLC and there was a hole in the bedroom door where a previous lock or handle had been removed. There was no shaver / electric tooth brush charging point. The adjacent restaurant didn't serve food in the evening because they didn't have a chef.

Booked this hotel for a wedding we were attending on Friday afternoon. Location for us was absolutely spot on as it was only 5 minutes from the night do location.
Upon arrival we was shocked to find what looked like a 'council complex' type building but being modernised and in good order.
Parcked up in free parking spaces which is a bonus for a hotel nowadays!
Went to reception and had to wait for 5 mins till someone appeared on the desk. Was checked in and told our key was in a lock box on the wall and here's a code to access it... found this very strange but then realised this is a budget hotel and some check-ins are done without staff.
Took the stairs to the first floor and was took aback by how nice and modern the hotel is inside. A guy at the top of the stairs, although looking bedraggled and had a funny musty smell held open the 'security locked' door at the top of the stairs. We then proceeded to our room, room 12. The room was outstanding to look at and was just what we needed for our 'Adult only', kid free night away. Lovely and clean, spacious and very modern.
A double bed, Wall mounted TV, deak and chair. Tea and coffee making set and kettle. Top quality products too.... Taylor of Harrogate!
In the bathroom was a large cubical shower and complimentary Shower gels and shampoo!
All great so far and we can't fault the place.
After coming back from the wedding and parking the car up we were greeted in the car park with a car full of 'reprobates ' and two 'homeless' type people leaning in the car and the whole lot of them drinking alcohol and sharing cans with metals straws!!!!! This was a sign to us the hotel was housing the 'Needy' hence the 'musty' guy on the stairs.
Unfazed we continued our Lovely stay.
Returning back the hotel at night it was strange that you can walk into this place unchallenged and get right up the stairs with no staff on site. The security fob locked door is only on a magnet so could be pulled open if needed! Again it didn't bother us though.
A few rooms were noisy in the corridors with groups of people in rooms talking. Then at 3:30am I was woken busy someone on the hallways talking to themselves mumbling, not being raucous just enough to wake me though.
Had a great night sleep apart from.the '3am walkabout '
Breakfast, you go put of the hotel doors and down a 10yard path into the Restaurant Rangos which is owned by the hotel but also serves as an open to the public restaurant.
What a beautiful and modern place this is with exceptional features and decor (photo opportunities here for some great pics)
Greeted by a young lady and shown to a table in the conservatory area we sat and had our order taken.
With our stay price we got choice of any breakfast and a hot and cold drink. So for a Β£96 stay this was now working out an exceptionally nice cheap place to stay.
Breakfast was served yo our table by the waitress who took great care in making sure all was OK and served correctly. Food was mind-blowing sizable for a hotel breakfast including hash browns on a full breakfast! 5* quality products and presented in 5* restaurant style!! Wife had poached eggs and Salmon on toast and was also blown away at the quality!
We paid an ecmxtra Β£15 to stay in the room till 12 which is a nice touch if not rushing off home.
Check out again is strange with no staff present on the desk and just a open top box to put your keys in.
Wpuld definitely stay here again as a couple but with the homeless people staying here I would not go with my family.
Great hotel, great value and can't fault the rooms just dubious about the clientele it keeps at present.

Avoid at all costs. The hotel is OK, it's relatively clean and not too tired.

It's also used to house drug addicts. So you have to put up all night with the sound of them arguing and vomiting as the walls are paper thin.

The corridors reak of weed as the addicts smoke on the fire escapes and if something does happen (remember, the building is full of drug addicts) then there is noone in reception.

There is a number to contact someone, but when we tried to contact them before our stay to arrange late departure, noone picked up for 3 days. We did try emailing but the majority of responses were inexplicably in German.

Excellent modern room that was exceptionally clean , the staff are fantastic, we stayed two nights here whilst visiting the Beamish Museum. If you have paid for bed and breakfast the breakfast is served in the Rangos Restaurant which is operated as a separate business but within the hotel building . The breakfast was absolutely excellent, we booked a Saturday evening meal at Rangos , again the food and Rangos staff along with the menu pricing are excellent . Great hotel already planning a revisit back to the Beamish Museum so we will be rebooking at this hotel again which would be our fourth time , many thanks too all .

Great location, clean tidy well equipped rooms and friendly helpful staff.|There were 6 of us in total and stayed here due to its location to Beamish Museum and the fact that there is a restaurant/bar attached (see separate review on that).|Accommodation was great and the beds were really comfy.|Would have no issues in recommending Hotel 52.

We stayed overnight whilst visiting family and were very pleased to have chosen this hotel. Although being very basic it is kept spotlessly clean, the bed and pillows very comfy, the towels in the en suite were white and fluffy. Included were teas, coffees etc. biscuits, soap and hair and body shampoo. Despite being beside a road we were not bothered by any noise. We had breakfast next door at Rangos, which was also excellent. Jeanette in charge deserves a special mention, she is so helpful and friendly. Can't wait to stay again!
