We booked before reading the reviews and then read them and were really quite nervous about staying, however, on arrival and finally accessing our rooms (slight issue with entry) we were pleasantly surprised. Spacious, clean, well equipped, comfortable bed, great shower, yes, it's not the Ritz but we'd definitely stay again. Good value for money and we found the self serve continental style breakfast was fine.

I had no idea the place was self-service until I got an email with an entry code. Warning to self - read the reviews before you book. It made the atmosphere weirdly quiet and eerie for a woman on her own. This was more than made up for by the noise from a very busy main road as I had a ground floor window facing the street. The room was stiflingly hot but raising the blinds and opening the windows seemed rather risky! The blinds also did not adequately keep out the streetlight at night. The manky continental breakfast made me laugh out loud. A box of cornflakes and two slices of bread(one was the crust) in a plastic bag. An utterly dreary place. Avoid!

It's decent for the price, it's on a fairly busy road so if traffic noises bother you keep that in mind. It's entirely self service and access to a kitchen is definitely a bonus. The rooms now have mini fridges which is a bonus. Unfortunately there's a fire alarm test due in my room which I would rather not have happening during my visit. Overall my stays at the Tennyson have been a net positive. I have stayed here plenty of times and will continue to do so in the future.

We were not made aware when booking for 2 nights that this was an unmanned guest house. We only realised this when we received a code for the key safe the day before. Upon entering the property the hall and staircase smelled unpleasant. Our allocated room was dingy, had a broken blind and grubby well-worn bedcovers. Breakfast appeared to be some bread etc left in a plastic bag in the room. We were disgusted, we decided not to stay and managed to book elsewhere. NOT RECOMMEND.

It was not made obvious when booking that the place was self service. Key safe not easy to get into. Hall & stairs smelled stale. Room had broken blind & grubby-looking bedcovers. Breakfast appeared to be bread etc left in a bag in the room. We were not happy so went elsewhere.

Outside the town , but still quite busy and loud area, and windows not blocking sounds. "Included complimentary breakfast " it's not a lie, it's just kinda Monty Python joke. Also there is no reception, so when I arrived, open the key lock, and room key wasn't there, took me few minutes phone call and 45 minutes waiting. Same night about 4am we had police knocking to all doors, looking for someone, plenty of attractions included.

Was not informed this was unmanned hotel did not receive any emails on how to enter had to call a number to be told access codes
Entered the room bed looked like someone had just got out of it
Breakfast was 2 slices of bread in a bag and a tin of beans in fridge that you had to take to communal kitchen to prepare yourself
Now at Hotel Ibis for less money
Do not use this place (not a hotel)

This is a 2* place to sleep. Rated by price, location. You can't beat the value for money or location with parking. It doesn't boast to more than it is! Best for budget traveling.
