Just visited for a lunch - oh my goodness, food was amazing, all home made and delicious, very generous portions, also the icing on the cake was the wonderfully friendly service - 100% recommended. We had the best ploughman’s ever! And a battered fish sandwich with tartar sauce, plus a chicken Caesar wrap and chips.
They also have a really good selection of wine, reasonably priced and VERY drinkable!
Thank you King Alfred’s we will be back!

Great little interesting pub. Bar dude was a friendly chap. Nice beers, good service. We had called in for a beer and some food after a long walk along the river, however there was no food available that particular day. Unfortunately, for them, as there were a group of around 15 who followed us in looking for grub. They must have lost a bit of income that day. We only had the 1 pint then headed of elsewhere to get fed.

We were camping locally and chose to visit this pub because it was near the Burrow Mump. So we could eat first, then head up the hill...

Well, what a great choice! It's a lovely pub, very down-to-earth, serving a good selection of well-kept beers and fantastic food. We had steak & ale pie and fish & chips, both big platefuls, delicious and reasonably priced.

We then powered up the hill to catch the sunset! 😊

We went to the King Alfred on a Wednesday evening where we were greeted by a friendly waitress, Geri, who provided us with some excellent recommendations for our meals. We enjoyed the food and our evening so much that we decided to return the following night and once again came back very pleased. We would highly recommend it here!

We had a lovely meal here, great service, very friendly staff and really good proper English pub food. Would highly recommend. The ham, egg & chips was particularly good, with top quality thickly sliced ham, locally sourced. Thank you!

Just popped in the king Alfred and was welcomed with polite staff. Me and my partner had a meal which the chef served us who is really professional and an outstanding chef. The food was great. We will definitely be coming back here.

What a hidden gem! The food was amazing, the service exceptional, and what a view from the upstairs seating area. Adam went out his way to make our friends Birthday a special occasion. John and Daisy were really friendly. Couldn’t recommend enough

After a refreshing walk through the picturesque Middlezoy and its surrounding areas, we were relieved to stumble upon The King Alfred Pub for some much-needed refreshments. While the pub itself has a slightly dated charm, what it may lack in modern aesthetics, it more than compensates for with its exceptional customer service and outstanding food.

I had the pleasure of enjoying the best ploughman's lunch I’ve ever tasted—swapping the usual bread for sourdough, which elevated the experience even further. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful, making us feel right at home.

Though we visited just for the weekend, we’ll undoubtedly return during our next trip. For anyone seeking delicious food , The King Alfred Pub is a true gem worth visiting.
