An outstanding county pub! The cozy atmosphere and welcoming staff made for a perfect dining experience. I had the steak pie, and it was incredible—tender, flavorful beef in a rich gravy, wrapped in perfectly crisp pastry. Comfort food at its best! Five stars, highly recommended! Was served my Zoë

Lovely stay, great location, nice room, amazing food! The ploughman’s was huge, couldn’t eat all the cheese. Our room was lovely. A few little finishing touches needed like the light shade was broken and some painting needed touching up. |Breakfast service could be better. I think providing the tea for the table is preferable to us having to make it ourselves. I know it’s a buffet breakfast but I just think that’s better. |We’d definitely come back though. Love that it’s so dog friendly.

Came in for a Sunday lunch and the roast dinners are to die for. The veg was cooked beautifully and the meat was so tender. The staff were friendly and helpful even during the busy period. Great to see a small pub be so busy and the best bit was they were dog friendly. The staff even made the pups feel welcome, offering them a dinner and ice cream too. We will definitely be back in when we are next in the area and we will be recommending to others.

Great people and a wonderful pub and place to stay. The shower water fluctuated from warm to scalding hot and the location mark will depend entirely on your reasons for being there. But the rooms were clean and well presented. But for me, it's all about service and the people who work there were wonderful. Not obsequious, 'customer is always right' staff but genuinely nice people who try and make your stay as comfortable as possible. Stay here, I don't think you will be disappointed.

We went here on spur of moment on a weekday lunchtime. It did not disappoint. Really helpful and friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Loads of choice for gluten free and excellent food. Will definitely be going back. |‘Fish finger sandwich ‘ was so much more than that . Beautifully cooked fresh fish and salad which was amazing.

Stayed overnight and had an evening meal, so reviewing for both.

The rooms was nice, spacious and clean, and the continental breakfast was lovely, with a good range and of a high quality.

However, when the evening meal arrived after an hour of waiting, it was lukewarm, and cold by the time we had finished. And when asking on the whereabouts of my sides, I got a 'yes' and they arrived 5 mins later piping hot. So drops a star overall, but I don't know if I would go just for a meal as the team are still in training!

Great location in a very active village, loads going on. Disappointed with mattress but credit to the staff a move to another room was arranged. Good food and beer, staff always friendly and very helpful. Otterton Mill is within walking distance and Budleigh Salterton just under 3 miles away by way of a lovely river walk.

Good food.
Came here for lunch on recommendation.
Sat outside as the weather was glorious, plenty of tables, all with sun shades and dog friendly, with water bowls readily available. The whole pub is dog friendly, which is a plus for us.
Good choice of food on lunchtime menu even though a couple of options were not available.
Easy to find, the car park is not huge so parking could be difficult when very busy, the access road is relatively narrow and it’s in the centre of the village so roadside parking not really an option.
