I fully recommend Lower House Guest House . I attended a painting course and it was a delight on all fronts. Peter and Tessa were extremely welcoming and everything was plain sailing from the time I arrived (Peter was waiting for me at the station, although I was a bit later than planned). The house is very comfortable and home-like (lots of interesting art on walls, inc. Tessa's!) and food was delicious. The art studio is very well organised and functional and I learned a lot from the course, which I enjoyed very much. Tessa is a very good teacher, with very wise advice. I was the only participant for two days and with another learner for 2 other days. The house is well situated for plein air (both for landscapes and seascapes). Although the weather in March was not the best, we managed to go out and develop from that on the studio. This was good for concentrating and was evidence of Tessa's adaptability. Thank you again for such an enjoyable and useful course. My family all say I have made huge progress in painting!

If there was a perfect formula for providing expert tutoring on the very best art course, with delightful thoughtful hosts in beautiful surroundings, along with copious amounts of sumptuous food (even for a challenging gluten and dairy free diet!) then the lovely Tessa and Peter have expertly orchestrated this! I enjoyed a wonderful six day stay at Lower House in August that certainly exceeded my expectations in every way. I would highly recommend Tessa's art courses, I learned so much and honestly could not think of a single thing that could be improved. Huge thanks to you both.

We greatly enjoyed the 3 day art course covering colour and tones. Tessa with her great skill, experience and patience as our tutor enthused us to get back into painting. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. The food was wonderful made with love by Tessa’s husband, Peter. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was always a delight. We had meals with the other participants and Tessa and Peter which made it a wonderful overall experience. We will return again. Thank you both for being great hosts.

We had a super overnight stay. Peter and Tessa were very accommodating of our late arrival, still cooking us a lovely meal and being extremely flexible in the time we stayed until in the morning. ||We had a delicious evening meal and very filling breakfast--Peter was very helpful and knowledgeable in providing for my gluten free needs.||It is a beautiful house and garden. My Dad had lived there with his family many years ago and Peter and Tessa were very kind in allowing us to explore the house and coach house. We will definitely be returning.

We were beautifiully looked after with three home-cooked meals each day. The week of painting with Tessa was inspiring and supportive - I learned a lot and came away with plenty to work on. The house is full of Tessa's artwork and other interesting pieces.

I have just returned from a one week Art Course at Callington School of Art. This was my third or even maybe fourth visit. The last one being seven years ago.||Tessa is a delight, and I count her as the most important artist friend and mentor in my life. She is encouraging, attentive, highly flexible to the needs and varying levels of art that is needed to be instructed. Everyone attending her courses has a truly inspirational and fun loving time. I look forward to coming back yet again!||The guest house is extremely comfortable and every single thing that one could require is there, attention to detail is perfect.||Peter…and his fabulous food. Well, I am used to the superbly high quality of food and service, but for those arriving for the first time it is always a joy to see their expressions of pure amazement at the delicious and professionally produced food. It is a joy to attend each and every meal offered, breakfast, lunch, tea and finally dinner. Perfection. Peter is a gifted chef and a generous host.||I cannot give this guest house and art school enough praise. Many thanks to you both for making us all so welcome.

I recently spent a week on the Exploring Colour Art Course, a residential art course situated in the Lower House Guest House. Wonderful to be back for another thoroughly enjoyable art holiday! Tessa's expert advice has helped me develop as an artist - so it was lovely to get some more insights. Tessa and Peter are very considerate hosts and my fellow guests were great company.
